The Ordinary Skincare Line Changed the Game For My Skin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

The first time I heard about the Ordinary skincare line was from a video on TikTok. Before seeing this video, this company was foreign to me. The very next day, I drove to Ulta Beauty to buy the specific product mentioned in the video. But once I was there I ended up buying a lot of their products. With all the Ordinary merchandise being fairly low in price, I was inclined to try them out. From that day on I’ve been using their line for my entire skincare routine. I truly have seen so much progress thus far, especially in terms of acne marks and scars! Let me share with you which products I use and their specific purposes.

THE ORDINARY HYALURONIC ACID  2% + B5

I use this product as my twice-a-day facial serum. I apply it in the morning and night before I use any other products whether it be skincare or makeup. It replenishes any lost moisture and maintains healthy-looking skin. It can also be a barrier to provide support for the skin and pores. I find it really helps in creating a natural glow for my skin.

THE ORDINARY AZELAIC ACID SUSPENSION 10%

This is another product that I use twice a day, morning and night. I use this after my serum is applied. The purpose of this product is to balance uneven skin tone and texture. It also assists with brightness, signs of aging and congestion. Usually, these types of products are only recommended to be used before bed. Since I use this specific product in the morning, I feel like I’m helping my skin all day long!

THE ORDINARY RETINOL 0.5% in SQUALANE

This specific product is one of their most popular and quickly sells out every time it hits the shelf. It’s a stronger product, so I only use it three times a week. It’s used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and aging, as well as improving elasticity, texture and radiance. But, I feel this product has been the true “game-changer” when it comes to my acne scars. Obviously, there’s no miracle overnight solution, but consistently using this has shown great results. Warning:  A little goes a long way with this one!

THE ORDINARY VITAMIN C SUSPENSION 23% + HA SPHERES 2%

This product took some getting used to for sure. It’s STRONG! It honestly burned when I first used it which caused me to panic. I quickly realized I used way too much and was also using it too often. I use this once, maybe twice a week. This item also sets to target uneven skin tone and wrinkles. A lot of the time these kinds of products will also help a lot with scaring! It definitely assisted in diminishing my marks and scars that acne left behind for me. How sweet of them…

THE ORDINARY LACTIC ACID 10% + HA

This product says to use it every night. I personally decide to switch it up and not use the same product every night, but everyone’s different! The Lactic Acid provides smoother and brighter skin, while evening out skin tone. I do have to say my skin is very bright when I wake up the morning after.

THE ORDINARY AHA 30% + BHA 2% PEELING SOLUTION

I saved the best for last of course. The holy grail of this skincare line. The item I saw on Tik Tok and ran to buy! First I have to say, ONCE A WEEK ONLY! I was warned by even the employee at Ulta about this. It’s extremely strong so overuse can cause damage to the skin. Whatever the package says it helps with is true, but I’m going to tell you how it helped me. My pores look non-existent after, my acne marks diminish and it leaves my skin feeling tight and refreshed! Probably a close call between this product and the Retinol for my top favorite. Also don’t leave it on for more than ten minutes! It’s a dark red shade that can leave your face red if left on too long.

I’ve been using these products for half a year now and only had to restock on one item! For the price, it isn’t even a hassle when I have to buy more. There are also plenty of other products that can target other skin types/issues that I may not deal with. Definitely go check them out! It’s worth the hype.
