Ron Moore, creator of For All Mankind, is set to develop a franchise exploring characters from Disney theme parks and classic films. The potential Disney+ franchise will be set in the legendary Magic Kingdom theme park. The purpose of this franchise is to explore characters everyone loves in a new way.
The first project in development in the Magic Kingdom Universe is The Society of Explorers and Adventurers. It’s set in a world where all the lands and characters of the theme parks and films exist in an alternate reality. Moore will not only write and produce the series but also oversee the entire franchise for Disney+ and 20th Television. Moore is well-known for being the genius behind the 2004 Battlestar Galactica reboot. Moore chose to work with Disney because his childhood was centered around it. His goal is to expand the Magic Kingdom Universe in a similar way that Marvel is achieving for Disney+.
This isn’t the first attempt Disney has made at combining their theme parks and characters. Filmmaker Kevin Smith was in the process of developing an adaptation of The Kingdom Keepers, a television series of young adult fantasy novels that occur inside Magic Kingdom. Disney+ executives then discontinued the project. Additionally, Jon Favreau was hired to direct a film titled The Magic Kingdom, which would include numerous attractions and worlds of the theme park coming to life. The original script was written by Moore before it got put to an end. Sources say Moore could possibly be using some of his original ideas for his new series.
Disney+ has released a great deal of content in 2021 and is planning many more projects for years to come. The 1-year-old streaming service has recently revealed plans to expand the universes of Star Wars and Marvel with about a dozen live-action series in the works for both franchises. Since the 1950s, Walt Disney has brought The Walt Disney anthology television series into the homes of millions of families. Now Disney+ can do the same for people all over the world.
