Having time management skills means you can accomplish more with less effort, have more free time, less stress, and improve your decision-making abilities. Make a list: One way to improve time management skills is to make a list of everything you have to do for the week. Write down approximately how much time each task will take, then “assign” yourself a few things to do each day. This will ensure you get things done on time, with a little bit of free time daily. If you need to break up a task over the course of a few days, feel free to do so.

Handle stress: By managing your time, you will automatically feel less stressed since you’re being more efficient. Creating a list or a schedule can be overwhelming, however, so it’s important to learn how to handle stress. Remember to take a deep breath, and if you need to take a break, it’s okay! Meditation can be a great way to clear your mind, as well as listening to your favorite music.

Prioritize your work: Learn to prioritize which tasks are most important by recognizing how long something will take and when it needs to be done. This will help you stay focused and be more productive with your time. Tasks that are unimportant take up a good deal of time, and we often use too much energy trying to get them done because they are easier or less stressful. Don’t try to multitask: The truth is, our brain is more productive when we concentrate on one task at a time. Multitasking can be stressful, and it takes too much energy to switch between tasks. It’s better to focus on one task at a time, then you can easily cross things off your to-do list! By avoiding multitasking, you’ll improve the quality of work you produce and get more done in a shorter amount of time.

Don’t procrastinate: Set a deadline for yourself. If you say you’re going to do something at 4 pm, stick to it. It’s easy to get stuck in a loop of “one more episode” or “just a few more minutes”, but don’t give in to the temptation! If you schedule a time to relax, it shouldn’t be a problem to do your work since you have time to do both. Keeping up with your current workload will help with motivation!
