Yeah, yeah, 2020. The weirdest, worst, best, most unexpected year practically ever. So many industries were affected, forced to innovate and adapt to the evolving (and virtual) world. There are so many products and services that have been changed forever, but there are still some special experiences that hours of binge-watching and immediate theatrical releases to your home can’t change: like going to the movie theatre.
Theatres around the globe have been shuttered, and your mediocre sound system and microwave popcorn just isn’t the same. Anticipated movies have been rescheduled or delayed for the foreseeable future, while some streaming services like Disney+ and HBOMax have tried their hand at joint streaming and theatrical releases.
This morning, Priyanka Chopra (“The White Tiger”) and Nick Jonas (“Kingdom”) announced the Oscar nominations for one of the weirdest years in Hollywood history. While traditional box office numbers and flashy premieres with immediate audience reactions didn’t happen this year, the Academy still had a variety of groundbreaking, moving, and entertaining films to nominate.
