Welcome to HC Lasell member’s day in our lives! We are all going to be taking readers through what a day in our life looks like as busy college students. Our Copy Editor, Hannah, Emalee is going to share what it’s like being a freshmen education major.
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a student studying to be a teacher? My name is Hannah, and I’m currently an Elementary Education major with a minor in Child and Adolescent Studies at Lasell University. Keep reading to find out more about what a day in my life is like!
8 am: Good morning! It’s Wednesday, which means my roommate has a class at 9:30 am and gets up at 8:00 am. This also means that I get up at 8:00 am because I’m such a light sleeper. Now that I’m awake, I roll over and grab my phone to do some early morning social media scrolling before I actually get out of bed.
8:30 am: I’ve spent the last 30 minutes scrolling through Instagram and checking my Costar for the day, and now that my roommate has sat down to do her hair and makeup, I get up and pick out an outfit while starting to get myself ready. Once changed, I pop my contacts in, brush my teeth, brush my hair, put some earrings in and put some mascara on.
9:00 am: Now that I’m officially ready for the day, it’s time for one very important step → my daily caffeine fix. I grab my favorite mug and a tea bag and let the Keurig do its thing. Hot tea is my all-time favorite drink, and every morning I make English Breakfast tea with a splash of 2% milk. If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it!
10:30 am: While sipping my tea, I spend the next hour and a half taking some notes for one of my many education courses. At 10:30 am I pause my note-taking (for now!) and grab all of the textbooks, notebooks, and other materials I’ll need for the day.
10:45 am: I’m headed out the door to my first class of the day, Teaching Early Literacy (it’s an education course). On my way to the Science and Technology Center (STC) at Lasell, I pass by my roommate leaving her class and we chat for a few minutes before I head to room 209 so I can be there for my 11:00 am class.
12:15 pm: Teaching Early Literacy has just ended, so I head down to the first floor of the STC for my next class, Sounds to Sentences (an English and education combo course), which begins at 12:30 pm.
1:45 pm: Class number two down, only one more to go! At this point in the day, I’m starving since I typically don’t eat breakfast and haven’t had a chance to eat lunch yet. However, there’s no time for that as I rush back to my dorm room so that I can turn on Zoom for my 2:00 pm class called Adolescent Psychology.
3:15 pm: I’m exhausted after sitting through three back-to-back courses, but my work for the day isn’t done yet. I make another cup of English Breakfast tea and say hi to my roommate who has just returned from Track and Field practice before turning Zoom on once again. At 3:30 pm, I work remotely via Zoom for the Donahue Institute and Intercultural Center at Lasell.
6:00 pm: I clock out of work and turn Zoom off for the day (thank goodness!!). My roommate texts our suitemate that I’m off of work and then the three of us put on coats, masks, and grab our student IDs. We walk down to the dining hall together and get some food before heading back to our dorm room to eat. While we eat, we joke around and chat about our days, complaining about courses and professors to let off some steam.
8:00 pm: After eating, I spend around two hours taking some more notes and working on some lesson planning assignments. My roommates and I sit in the same room and all quietly focus on doing our own thing and getting our work done. However, once it hits 8:00 pm, we’ve all hit our limit and are so over doing homework. So, we pull out my Nintendo Switch and play some Mario-Kart or Super Smash Bros.
9:30 pm: Now that I’ve kicked both my roommates’ butts (or had them kick mine depending on the day), we all call it a night. My roommate and I say goodnight to our suitemate before back over to our room and taking our makeup off, brushing our teeth, and putting pajamas on.
10:00 pm: I’ve just crawled into bed and am ready to watch a few YouTube videos so that I can unwind a bit for actually going to sleep. I’m currently obsessed with Mia Maples and Brad Mondo, so check them out for some good YouTube content!
11:00 pm: Good night! At this point, I turn my phone off after setting an alarm for the next day.
Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are about my day! Are you or anyone you know an Education major? If so, is this what their daily life is like too?
