We all love a good rainy day that can turn into a lazy day. It is easy to stay in bed and binge watch your favorite Netflix series while not changing out of your pajamas. But what happens when you have too much to do that day and need to stay motivated to do your work? From someone who loves her lazy rainy days, here are five tips for staying motivated during a rainy work day at home.

Make a “To Do” List

This is one of the easiest ways to stay motivated on a rainy day. What I like to do is grab my handy dandy planner and a notebook to plan out what I have to do. I first look in my planner to see what I have to get done that day, whether it be homework, studying, sending an email, working on a group project, or even cleaning my room. I then think about how I am going to prioritize my tasks with what I am going to get done first and last. I like to pick things that will take the least time to go first on my list of things to do. This allows me to cross off the things on my list which also motivates me to keep going if I see myself getting things done. Making a “to do” list also allows you to stay on track and ensure that you get everything done that you need to.

Establish A Good Workspace

Establishing a good workspace during a rainy day can really keep you on track and focused on the work you need to get done for the day. For me, I try to turn the lights on wherever my workspace is, so that I can stay awake. I also like to get out of bed and find a workspace where I will not be tempted to go sit in bed and watch Netflix. This could be sitting at your kitchen table or at a desk. I also try to keep my workspace clean and organized. This helps me focus because I cannot work in a space that is cluttered or else my mind will focus on the mess instead of the work I need to get done.

Change Your Scenery

Another thing I choose to do during a rainy day is to change my scenery. Sometimes during my rainy work days, I struggle to spend all day doing work and it leads me to burn out. When I change my scenery every once in a while, it helps me stay focused while doing individual tasks. You can also look at it as a reward. For example, if I finish a part of my homework or a few tasks, I reward myself by going for a drive to get some coffee. This helps me because I am getting coffee to keep me going for the rest of the work day but I also get to take my eyes off of my work and let myself relax for a few minutes. Another thing you can do to change your scenery is to go somewhere like the library or a coffee shop to do work. These are two areas in which you can be productive, but also allow you to get a change of scenery and not be stressed out doing work.

Be Active for 30 Minutes

Another tip that I like is to be active for 30 minutes. The 30 minutes you can take with a grain of salt. I personally believe that is enough time for me to take a break and still stay motivated. During this break, you can be active and go for a walk. Sometimes, this helps me because I can change up my scenery and find a moment to get my stress out. I have to say, I was not someone who would go for walks all the time during my work week, but it certainly helps. Specifically on a rainy day, you can walk on a treadmill or around your house, to your favorite coffee shop, etc. You can also do a workout inside to stay out of the rain. A few of my friends who are always productive work out during their work day. This can keep your heart rate up and it is also something to cross off your list of things to do!

Fuel Your Body With the Right Things

Last but not least, in order to stay alive, energized, and motivated for your rainy work day, you should always fuel your body with the right stuff. Of course, we are all guilty of eating a whole bag of chips or the rest of our ice cream tubs. However, we should use those things as rewards after we get our work done. Instead of eating our unhealthy cheat snacks, try to steer yourself towards foods that are healthy that will keep you awake and energized. One snack that is super popular now is the famous TikTok red bell pepper with cream cheese and everything but the bagel seasoning. Another snack you can eat that I have really been into is pretzel thins with hummus. You can also substitute the pretzel things with pita chips or veggies like carrots or cucumbers. Lastly, don’t forget to drink your water and coffee!! Just dont drink too much coffee or you won’t be able to sleep!

All in all, the only thing that can truly keep you motivated to get your work done during a rainy day is yourself. So go get yourself a cup of coffee, make your “to do” list, and be a boss! You got this!
