As much as it pains me to write this, I believe that it’s just as important to acknowledge one’s “failures” as much as it is to celebrate one’s accomplishments. I received a rejection from my first choice of schools, and honestly, I couldn’t process it at the time, as I had an assignment due that night. Of course, reading that email hurt like hell, but it’s one of those situations where you decide either to sit and wallow in misery or to pick yourself up and keep it pushing.

After sitting on it for a while, I realized that there was a third option. I can feel how I needed to feel for a bit and remember that this situation is not reflective of my whole being. Yes, it hurts, and yes, I feel like this is just one of many bumpy roads to come, but that is not how things actually are. The reality of the situation is that it’s okay that I didn’t get into the school I wanted, and it’s okay for me to be upset about it. The important thing is that I don’t let this one instance define me. I am still a bright, young woman, who is capable of anything she puts her mind to, and no rejection can take that away from me.
