As the school year goes by and school work is picking up, the perfect fall playlist is essential to give students the motivation to push through their studies. Whether it’s a slow, nostalgic melody or more upbeat, cheerful song to help you get through a long study session, there’s something for everyone to listen to. With that, here are my top three song recommendations to get you in the fall mood this year!
The 1975’s most popular song “About You” was released on Oct. 14, 2022 and four years later is still a big hit in the music industry with more than a billion streams on Spotify. The slow, yet catchy melody is the perfect background for getting through a tiring workload.
The song’s nostalgic, whimsical melody makes it easy to romanticize the process of studying, turning a late night study session into a cinematic experience. Whether you are walking across campus on a chilly afternoon or spending a night reading a good book, it’s in moments like these where having “About You” in the background adds to the comforting feelings that fall often brings.Â
For all my Taylor Swift lovers, it felt necessary to recommend a song from her Evermore album. “Champagne Problems” is a bittersweet song about heartbreak and a failed marriage proposal, with its melancholy yet comforting melody encapsulating a perfect fall day.
The album cover itself is an embodiment of the season, with Swift wearing a plaid flannel in the middle of a forest surrounded by muted autumn leaves. Beyond its seasonal aesthetics, the song explores themes like the uncertainty of life and things not going to plan.
For college students adjusting to new routines and friendships, the lyrics in the song can easily resonate with them and make them feel like they are not the only one navigating these emotions. Listening to “Champagne Problems” feels like watching autumn leaves change color and getting lost in the track of time.Â
Finally, no fall playlist is complete without Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season.” The song talks about the complicated feelings of leaving home and trying to move forward. For many college freshmen, being away from home for the first time brings a mix of both excitement, independence, and homesickness.
Kahan captures the feelings of wanting to return to what is familiar through this song, allowing us to reminisce about past memories and people that feel like home. “Stick Season’s” upbeat, folk sound makes it a perfect backdrop for this exciting new chapter in everyone’s lives.Â
Whether you gravitate to more nostalgic melodies or upbeat tunes, I encourage everyone to step outside of their comfort zone and explore new artists.
After all, the best part of creating a fall playlist is discovering new favorite songs that make the season feel even more special.Â
