While rewatching Winx Club with my headphones on over breakfast at De Neve, one very important question popped into my head: Which UC would each Winx fairy attend? And what would they major in? (Side note: I highly recommend returning to the “kids” cartoons you grew up watching whenever you have no idea what to watch.)
There are only six main Winx fairies and, unfortunately, more than six UCs, so apologies if your college didn’t make the list! After probably too much consideration, here’s where I believe each Winx fairy belongs in the UC system.
Flora: UC Santa Cruz
Flora is the Fairy of Nature, so UC Santa Cruz feels like the most obvious choice for her. The campus is surrounded by redwoods and greenery, creating the kind of environment she would thrive in. She would major in environmental sciences. Flora is conscious of how people affect the environment and interested in finding ways to protect it.
Her gentle personality sometimes overshadows how determined she can be, especially when something she cares about is threatened. Flora is creative too, so I could see her taking a creative writing minor alongside her major. UC Santa Cruz even offers a course titled “Environmental Action Through Writing”— you would absolutely find her there.
Stella: UCLA
There is no way Stella would attend anywhere other than UCLA. She would love living in Los Angeles, shopping in Westwood, and getting a strawberry matcha fresh milk from Sharetea between classes.
Since UCLA doesn’t offer a fashion design major, I believe Stella would double major in art and business economics. Throughout Winx Club, she’s known for loving fashion and putting together some of the most memorable outfits in the series. An art major would give her space to explore that creativity, while business economics would help her create a fashion brand of her own.
Bloom: UC Berkeley
There’s a possibility that I might be a little biased because I’m an English major, but Bloom would major in English too. Throughout the series, she enjoys reading about spells, magical history, and the mysteries surrounding her past. She’s naturally curious and uses what she learns to better understand herself and the magical world.
I would place her at UC Berkeley because she has the determination to blossom in such a cutthroat academic environment. It might initially remind her of arriving at Alfea as the new girl and feeling like everyone knew more than she did. Still, Bloom has never allowed being inexperienced to stop her from catching up. Bloom is known for sketching and drawing, so she would minor in art, too.
Aisha: UC San Diego
Aisha would attend UC San Diego and double major in marine biology and dance. As the Fairy of Waves, her powers are connected to water, and she comes from a planet made up entirely of water. Like Flora, I think Aisha would want to study something she loves and better understand how it works. UC San Diego is fitting because of its strong marine science programs, not to mention how close the beach is.
Aisha is a professional athlete and a talented dancer in the cartoon, so majoring in dance would allow her to continue pursuing another important part of her life.
Tecna: UC Irvine
Tecna would major in computer science at UC Irvine. She’s the Fairy of Technology, so this might be the easiest pairing on the entire list. UC Irvine’s focus on technology and research would give her plenty of opportunities to work on new projects.
I think Tecna would enjoy UCI’s calmer environment, too. She’s logical and independent, so she would appreciate having a peaceful campus where she could focus. You would probably find her in a computer lab working on a research project long after everyone else had gone home.
Musa: UCLA
Musa is the Fairy of Harmony, though she is better known as the Fairy of Music, so her major requires very little debate. She would major in music at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music. Music is central to Musa’s identity. She sings, plays several instruments, and uses music to process emotions.
I can’t picture her anywhere other than UCLA. Being in Los Angeles would put her close to the music industry, live performances, and other artists. The Herb Alpert School of Music would be her safe haven on campus, especially when she needs somewhere to practice or simply put her headphones on and be alone for a while.
Ultimately, I would like to be an exchange student at Alfea and visit the girls’ school myself. I think I would prefer a magical boarding school and evil witches over midterms. You might have a different lineup in mind, but these are the placements I’m sticking with!
