Halloween is right around the corner, and every year, I hope to see a costume I’ve never seen before. Whether it’s cute, nerdy, or meme-inspired, I love seeing how creative people get for this exciting holiday. I have yet to be disappointed, but there are still some costumes I’d love to see more of. So, since I’ve already bought my Halloween costume, I’ve compiled a list of eight very random, very different costumes I’d would love to see the girlies pull off this Saturween.Â
Yumeko Jabami: Kakegurui
The first costume on this list comes from one of my favorite psychological series and one of my favorite anime. Yumeko Jabami is the main character of the show, and she transfers to a new school of wealthy students who base their social status on their gambling skills. Yumeko’s character design is that of a fair-skinned teenage girl with long, black hair who wears a red uniform issued by her school. At the start of the show, Yumeko has an innocent demeanor, but when gambling, she becomes a completely different person. Her psychotic gambling addiction is what makes her character so interesting, and I’d love to see someone cosplay as her one day.Â
Maki Zen’in: Jujutsu KaisenÂ
The next costume on my list is also from an anime that, up until two weeks ago, I had only heard the name of. Safe to say that now I am a big fan of this anime and this character. Maki Zen’in is one of the side characters in the series who demonstrates how characters deemed powerless in their universe should never be underestimated. Maki’s character design is a teenage girl with an athletic build and long, green hair, which she cuts off later in the series. Maki is a very headstrong, motivated person who is determined to prove all of her haters wrong. She is my favorite character in JJK, and I think her character design would be a fun one to replicate.Â
Chicken LittleÂ
This next one may seem way off base from the other characters I’ve mentioned, but Chicken Little was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up, and I think it would be a really silly costume design. Chicken Little’s character design is very simple; he’s a small chicken with green glasses, a striped T-shirt, and oversized khaki shorts. If you haven’t heard the original story, the Disney rendition is about a young chicken who overcomes fear to save his town from an alien invasion (“The sky is falling!” If you know, you know). It’s a funny movie with a great message, and I honestly don’t see anything wrong with dressing as a chicken; I might even do this costume next year!Â
Album CoversÂ
This idea is much broader than the others, which is great because there are so many unique album covers to choose from. Dressing up as an album cover can really showcase the same creativity that artists use when going through their creative process. Some of my favorite album cover designs include Red Moon in Venus by Kali Uchis and Popstar by Tinashe. No matter the artist, you can come up with an amazing costume design.Â
Mrs. Puff: SpongeBob SquarePantsÂ
Another character that’s more on the sillier side is Mrs. Puff from the beloved SpongeBob series. Mrs. Puff’s design is a personified pufferfish with light blue fins as limbs, brown spots on her body, and spikes covering her body. She is a side character who is well known for being SpongeBob’s no-nonsense driving instructor. Despite SpongeBob’s reckless driving behavior, she is very patient with him, which makes her a great character in this show. Dressing as Mrs. Puff can be a fun and whimsical process, especially for fans of the show like myself.Â
Bella Noche MemeÂ
This here is a classic and one of my favorite memes of all time. If you know, you know, but for those who haven’t seen it, the Bella Noche meme is from a 2015 news clip in Baton Rouge, LA, where a fight involving guns broke out at a nightclub. The woman being interviewed is named Hazel London, and she is standing alongside her friend, stating her frustrations. The iconic line from the clip, “If you can’t go to Bella Noche, where the hell could you go?” turned into a viral meme that I still laugh about to this day. Despite the negative events that happened in this clip, it became an iconic moment, and their outfits? So cute. I think one day I’ll recreate this meme with my homegirl.Â
Barbara Howard: Abbott ElementaryÂ
Another unserious character from another unserious show, Mrs. Barbara Howard, has become a fan favorite character in the sitcom Abbott Elementary. This show is centered around dedicated school teachers in Philadelphia who have the odds stacked against them but make the best of their circumstances. Barbara’s character design is a middle-aged woman who keeps her hair cut short and loves wearing pearls. Barbara, or Mrs. Howard, is a kindergarten teacher who has been teaching at Abbott for many years and is highly respected by everyone at the school. She is also a woman of God, who stated in one episode that her favorite B-word is “Bible.” She also has a gag in the show where she mixes up celebrities’ names, often mistaking one famous person for someone else. This character would serve as an interesting costume because of her age and personality.Â
Perry the Platypus: Phineas and FerbÂ
Now the last—but certainly not least—character on this list is the adorable blue platypus Perry from Phineas and Ferb. Perry is the main characters’ pet platypus who, despite his cute appearance, is a secret agent who goes by the alias Agent P. He is constantly going head-to-head with the series’ main villain, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, and outsmarts him in every episode. Now, it might seem silly to cosplay as a blue platypus, but don’t knock it till you try it. This would be a hilarious costume because it requires so much dedication to paint yourself blue, craft an orange beak, and wear a tiny brown hat to top it all off. I really hope someone pulls this off this Halloween because I think it would be very whimsical and memorable.Â
I know my list started on a more serious note, but overall, I think Halloween is about having fun, no matter who you decide to become for the night. Whether it’s your favorite anime character, an iconic album, or a comical moment, I hope this Saturween is unforgettable for everyone, filled with creativity and fun memories of dressing up with your friends and family. I was going to reveal my costume at the end, but now I realize how basic it is compared to this whimsical selection. Happy Halloween!Â
