Taking Myself on a Solo Date in Cambridge

Since living in Boston, I’ve loved getting to explore different places around the city. Cambridge was somewhere I had been wanting to visit for a while, so I decided to take myself on a little solo date! I love spending time with my friends, but sometimes it’s nice to go out and do things on your own, especially when you can spend the day doing whatever you feel like.

I started my morning with breakfast at The Friendly Toast in Harvard Square. I got the “Highway Strawberry French Toast” and an iced “Shaken and Sweet” coffee, and both were really good! The french toast was huge, and I especially thought the coffee was incredible. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It had almost a diner feel to it, but a little more modern and there were all sorts of decorations and pop culture references from different decades. It was definitely a fun place to start the day!

After breakfast, I walked around Harvard’s campus for a little while. The buildings were so pretty, and the whole campus had such a nice fall feel to it. From there, I headed over to Brattle Street to check out some of the shops. There were a bunch of cute bookstores, and I loved taking my time looking through them. I didn’t end up getting any books, but I still had fun browsing! I’ve always enjoyed going into stores just to see what they have even if I’m not looking for anything in particular.

I also walked down toward the river and ended up at a bridge with such a pretty view, and I could also see Harvard’s boathouse from there. I loved getting to see another part of Cambridge, and it was a nice way to finish off my afternoon!

I think what made the day so enjoyable was being able to do everything at my own pace. I didn’t have to worry about what anyone else wanted to do or how long I was spending somewhere. If I wanted to stay in a store a little longer I could, and if I wanted to keep going I could do that too! It was honestly just a relaxing way to spend the day, especially with how busy college gets sometimes.

If you’ve ever thought about taking yourself on a solo date, I would definitely say to give it a try! It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, and you don’t even have to go very far. Whether it’s grabbing breakfast, going shopping, or exploring somewhere new, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a day by yourself. I had such a good time exploring Cambridge, and I’m already thinking about where I want to go next!
