Being bored during the fall season and waiting for Halloween can be a hassle. With the sun setting earlier than usual, leaves everywhere and the weather cooling down, here are five things you can do to beat the boredom and enjoy the fall season.

  1. Brew up some decorations

If you love to craft and make your place feel super cozy during the fall, this one’s for you! Crafting up some fall-colored or Halloween decorations is such a fun activity you can do with your friends. Get some paper, scissors, and tape, and you can make your own homemade paper chains and then hang them around. Or, for a simpler craft, get some orange paper and outline some pumpkins that you can put on your wall. Going on the internet and looking up “easy crafts to make during the fall” will not only keep you from being bored but also spice up your home.

  • A spooky movie marathon

Watching Halloween- or fall-related movies during the fall has always been fun. Pick out your favorite movies or even movies that seem worth watching and plan them out for every night of October. So, even on the toughest of days, being able to look forward to those movies with someone you love, or even with your friends, will keep you from doomscrolling on your phone. Grab some spooky treats and all of your pumpkin spice favorites and enjoy!

  • Visit the pumpkin patch

This one may be self-explanatory, but dressing up and going to the pumpkin patch to enjoy the weather and take some fun pictures with your favs will be fun and memorable. So, get lost in the corn maze, pick the funniest pumpkin to carve or paint, and get on a hayride and enjoy the view, smells and colors of fall.

  • Find a Haunted House near you

For those with a spooky side, find your nearest haunted house and go explore. Not just ones with scare actors, but by doing some research about your own town, you may find some ghost tours or even some scary history to explore. Bring your friends and see what’s around your town. Attending local museums as well can give you insight, especially during the Halloween season.

  • Shop for some fall outfits

For the fashionistas out there, go to your local thrift stores and boutiques and put together some fun fall outfits. With the weather getting colder, pick some cool, warm sweaters to wear to school, work, or even to hang with friends will make you stand out! And if you already have your fall outfits planned out, craft your own Halloween outfits with fabrics or clothes from your local thrift stores. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Have fun and enjoy the fall leaves of color before it gets cold!

Virginia Tech '28

My name is Natalie Arias, and I am a sophomore at Virginia Tech majoring in Multimedia Journalism with a Minor in Digital Marketing Strategies. As a first-generation college student, I take pride in my education, as attending college is a significant accomplishment for both myself and my family. One of my Major goals I have once I graduate from college is the chance to travel and document the different sights, cultures, and people that I see. Being able to spread the word about different cultures in a positive way is important to me and my goals and I hope to use journalism as a platform in order to share the world around us in an authentic way.

Alongside my academics, I currently work a Part time job but some of my main accomplishments have been being able to design company logos and work with websites such as Canva and Adobe Photoshop. Writing being one of my strengths, being able to tell stories, write opinions, and overall just saying what's on my mind has been such an outlet for me because it brings both my creativity and writing skills together. Some skills I have developed the most throughout college have been Communication, Writing, and creativity. I enjoy seeing what's happening on social media and analyzing trends that truly stand out and then creatively writing about it.

As for outside of school I really enjoy watching softball in my free time, hanging out with my friends whether it be going on a hike or even just chilling in my apartment, and also taking the time out of my day to talk to my family. Being able to bring close friends and family together in my life has helped me become able to be as creative as I am and talk and write about these experiences in my life.
