As we get further into October, we get closer and closer to my favorite day of the year: Halloween! To get into the Halloween spirit, my favorite things to do include curling up in a big fuzzy blanket, getting a cup of hot cocoa, and watching scary movies with my roommates. Here are my three favorite horror movies to watch for the spookiest Halloween!
- Train to Busan
-
As a zombie movie lover, I had to include at least one zombie movie on my list, and Train to Busan is one of my all-time favorites. Ever since my dad let me watch it as a kid (which he probably shouldn’t have), Train to Busan has been my favorite.
This movie is perfect because it has the scariness of a horror movie while retaining a complex plot with interesting characters. I still think about my plan for the zombie apocalypse every time I get on a train — or really, anywhere I go — thanks to this zombie-filled horror movie.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
-
This movie is one of my favorite fall classics, whether you are in the mood to celebrate Christmas or Halloween! I watch The Nightmare Before Christmas every year without fail, usually because my sisters want to watch Coraline and I’m too scared.
The Nightmare Before Christmas brings the watcher an air of nostalgia. It often brings me back to childhood holiday seasons. This is also a great choice if you are scared of traditional horror movies, as it is rated PG!
- American Psycho
-
Although I love all kinds of horror movies, there’s a special place in my heart for traditional horror. American Psycho is one of the more conventional horror movies that has made its way into my favorites list, as it explores the horror that can occur from everyday situations, such as having a demanding or inappropriate boss.
Sometimes, it may feel as though your boss or coworkers are psycho, and this movie explores the possibility that they really might be. This is a perfect pick to get into the Halloween spirit.
With these recommendations, I hope you feel ready to make the most of the end of October, just like I do! For me, an extra excuse to watch horror movies makes the cooler weather worth it. As it gets darker earlier, I always crave a good horror movie. These three classic scary movies will put you in just the right mood for Halloween and, hopefully, the holidays that follow.
