Are you tired of seeing similar costumes across campus? Are you battling between being too simple vs. being too niche that nobody recognizes you? Walk with me then! As someone who takes Halloween a little too seriously, here are some simple ideas of what you could be for Halloween.
Solo Costumes —
#1: Siren
I love the idea of someone going as a lake siren! Grab some face pearls and a simple, elegant dress. Luckily, this costume is very makeup-reliant, so if you’re trying to save a couple bucks, your costume could still come out recognizable. Of course, if you’re wanting to splurge and add a few shells and even some fish net to really give off a washed-up look, by all means.
#2: Zombie
Bring zombie costumes back! Thrift some basics and dirty them up & rip them for a disheveled look. Perhaps this costume was more popular back in the 2010s, when there was an abundance of zombie movies and TV shows coming out. All the more reason to bring it back out.
#3: Carrie
Originally a character from Stephen King’s 1974 novel of the same name, this is a cute and scary costume that is easily recognizable! A bit more commitment in this costume is required, due to the fact that fake blood needs to be spilled in order for this costume to work. Hopefully you don’t get too attached to the dress.
Duo/Group Costumes —
#1: Frank Castle & Spider-Man
A great choice that will make heads turn! Everyone’s had a little taste of this duo over the summer from the newest Spider-Man movie installment. This is a platonic duo idea that requires a bit of planning, but if executed well will gather a lot of positive comments for you and your friend.
#2: Gumball & Darwin
A funny, cute duo costume that doesn’t need a whole lot of effort. Blue clothes and blue ears for one, and orange clothes/orange ears for the other. If you’re truly dedicated to the art of Halloween, perhaps you could fully paint yourself orange or blue. Up to you.
#3: My Little Pony
A group costume that can handle up to 7 people (if Spike the Dragon is included). There are plenty of styles that can be executed with this costume. If you have leftover cowgirl costume materials, be Applejack! If you were previously a fairy, you could be Fluttershy! There are a lot of different ways to go about My Little Pony costumes, and they’re all great ideas.
Couples Costumes —
#1: Batman & Catwoman
I’ve been the victim of too many Batman & Robin couples costumes. Go out as a real couple and serve while doing it! (Alternative: if you’re single, go as Catwoman and take a picture with every Batman you see. Or the other way around! Funny conversation starter!)
#2: Superman & Batman
Maybe I should relax on all the Batman mentions. However, I went as Clark Kent last Halloween and loved taking pictures with every Batman I could find! Relatively, the costumes are simple to gather. Simple suits are available on Amazon or even local costume stores.
#3: Leon Kennedy & Ada Wong from “Resident Evil”
I’m personally biased. I’ve been obsessed with the “Resident Evil” franchise for a while and would love to see more iterations of this couple’s costume walking around this Halloween. (I’m also going as Leon this year) These costumes are relatively simple, and only require key items to be recognizable. For Leon, a furry brown leather jacket could be all you need, and it would be beneficial during the cold night! For Ada, all you need is a red dress and a shoulder holster.Â
And if you were wondering, here are my 3 costumes this year: Arthur Morgan from “Red Dead Redemption 2”, Leon Kennedy from “Resident Evil 4”, and a cheetah. You can really tell where my creativity lost me.
