FUN FALL CRAFTS

It’s normal to feel stuck between summer and fall when the weather starts to get chilly. If you’re feeling extra bored waiting for Halloween to come around, try out some of these cheap and effortless fall crafts.

The Classic Tie Blanket

If you’ve ever made a tie blanket before then you’re no stranger to how easy and convenient it is. This budget-friendly craft can make a great gift for anyone, but especially for yourself! All you have to do is go to your local craft store and purchase four total yards of any fleece fabric you like (you can choose a different print for each side). Next, lay your two pieces on top of each other and cut three-inch slits about an inch apart around the border. Double-knot each piece to join the two fabrics together, and you’re done! This is a craft that can be done year-round, and there’s no limit to the amount of creativity you can use to create this.

DIY Ghost Painting

This craft went viral on TikTok in 2020, but I think this is a cost-effective and timeless trend. Head to your local thrift store and pick out your favorite landscape painting or photograph. Take it home with you, grab some paint, and turn this thrift-find into a spooky Halloween decoration. You can paint ghosts, pumpkins, cats and anything else fall-related. The best part about this craft is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. If your ghost doesn’t look exactly how you’d like it to look, wipe it off while the paint is still wet and keep creating. This could also make a great gift or be a fun girls’ night activity.

Air-Dry Clay Spiders

Air-dry clay is a very versatile medium, and it can be found at any craft store, Walmart, or dollar store. This activity requires little to no preparation or rules, so you can make your spiders as detailed or as simple as you want. Begin by purchasing black air-dry clay and mold the clay into the head, the abdomen and eight legs. If you want to make them large, I recommend molding the parts first with balls of tin foil, then using clay to cover it up. Coat the spider in some glitter paint and attach its end to a string and you have a spider discoball! These can also be used as wall decorations, center pieces, turned into jewelry or function as place card holders.

Pumpkin Plaster Art

If you’re looking for a more artistically challenging craft, try out plaster painting. The simplest way to do this is to pick up a small bucket of drywall spackle at your local hardware store and a cloth canvas. Take a painting knife and spread the spackle onto your canvas into pumpkin shapes. Keep in mind that the spackle will look a little different when dry, and don’t be afraid to mess it up! The gritty drywall spackle texture helps to make perfectly imperfect pumpkins. Finish with a blend of orange colored paints and hang your masterpiece on the wall.
