A COLLEGE GIRL’S GUIDE TO HAVING A BAD WEEK

Last week was an all-time low for me. Everything was piling up. I was anxious all week, felt sick, could not sleep, didn’t exercise and put off schoolwork until the last minute. I’m not proud of the way I act when I’m having a bad day or a bad week. You don’t have to fix it all, just survive it. I did.

When I’m having a bad week, every single little thing turns into the worst thing. Take it in stride. Pick one thing to get done, then move on to the next. I’m not saying you have to keep yourself busy; you just have to get one thing done to feel a little better. It should probably be the most time-sensitive thing! When you get that thing done, take yourself to get a fun drink or snack. I always like to get Chipotle whenever I feel like I’ve accomplished something!

Another thing I like to do is put on a nice outfit. When I look good, I feel good. I think this is useful a lot because you feel more confident in yourself and the things that you can do when you feel put together. It can be jeans and a sweater, maybe put a little makeup on. Either way, it gives you the feeling of having your life together.

I also like to call my mom when I’m having a bad day. That also usually leads to my dad texting me because she tells him everything. Sometimes hearing your mom’s voice or anyone from your family’s voice can help you feel better.

Another idea to relax is to just have an unproductive night; I did this on Monday. Don’t feel guilty about it either. Everything will get done. It’s not procrastination; it’s taking a needed break. Get some food, watch your favorite movie, color, do whatever you want, just no schoolwork!

Getting out of your room is also another idea. Maybe you don’t feel like exercising; that’s fine! You can go to a coffee shop or just take a walk. Everything is so beautiful outside right now with the leaves changing. I think leaving your room is another way to take a break that could be beneficial.

Lastly, I really think the main point I want you to know is that you should stop comparing yourself to others. Remember that you only know a tiny bit of people’s lives. Basing yours on theirs is never beneficial to you, and it’s not the truth. You’re great. Don’t make your achievements feel less than those around you.

Just remember, in the end, one bad week isn’t going to end your life. Or one horrible day does not mean the week is all going to be horrible. Just make it to Friday and do your best along the way; that’s all that matters.
