As someone who can only name about three football positions, I still tune in for the Super Bowl every year. Not for game highlights or commercials, but for the halftime performance. For Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga garnered massive attention, and deservedly so. Here is my dream Super Bowl halftime performance, which would be a much longer lineup.
Music Artist Lineup
Tyler, The Creator
Opening my halftime performance would be none other than Tyler, The Creator. Tyler has been my favorite artist for as long as I can remember. Seeing him perform live on his Call Me If You Get Lost Tour in 2022 was one of my favorite live music experiences to date, one that I hope to someday relive! Tyler’s stage presence and ability to command a room are unmatched by many. With Tyler opening the Super Bowl halftime show, I think the crowd’s energy would inevitably be vibrant.
I would hope to see Tyler open with his upbeat, popular songs like “Ring Ring Ring,” “Sticky (feat. GloRilla, Sexyy Red & Lil Wayne),” or “NEW MAGIC WAND.” These songs would undoubtedly garner excitement and movement. Tyler is also known for working with Pharrell Williams, another one of my favorite artists. Tyler and Williams have undeniable stage chemistry, and I would love to see them perform any of their well-known collaborations like “Cash In Cash Out” or “IFHY (feat. Pharrell).”
Daniel Caesar
Daniel Caesar would bring a contrast to Tyler’s upbeat, experimental hip-hop with a calmer R&B tone. Upon conclusion of Tyler’s set, Williams and Caesar’s collaboration “FRONTAL LOBE MUZIK (feat. Pharrell Williams)” would be the perfect transition to a short Caesar set.
While it may not be an obvious pick for a halftime performance, I would give my left arm to see Caesar’s “Shot My Baby” performed live. I can only imagine hearing this song’s chord progression in a stadium.
Al Green
Lately, I’ve been hyper-fixated on classic soul, particularly Al Green. Caesar’s contemporary style would be an apt transition to a performer like Green. His hits like “Tired of Being Alone” and “Let’s Stay Together” are quintessential to my dream lineup.
Additionally, Disclosure’s “Feel Like I Do” features an especially recognizable sample of Green’s “I’m Still in Love With You.” A song like this would bridge the gap between music lovers across a range of genres. Combining elements of soul and electronic house, “Feel Like I Do” would be a seamless close to Green’s set.
Tame Impala
Tame Impala presents a blend of house, synth-pop, psychedelic rock; the list goes on. Known for dramatic strobe lights and unforgettable live performances, Tame Impala would be the penultimate performer of my dream halftime show. Up-tempo, well-known songs like “Is It True” and “Let It Happen” would incorporate just the right amount of both rhythm and synth before the closing performance.
Slayyyter
Slayyyter is quickly making strides in the electronic pop genre. With an experimental style of her own, Slayyyter has hit the mainstream with music that’s nearly impossible not to dance to. Slayyyter’s hyperpop would curate tremendous morale before resuming the big game. I would love to see Slayyyter perform crowd favorites like “DANCE…,” “brand new chanel$,” and of course “CRANK.”
Oh, and by the way, for my dream Super Bowl, the teams playing would be the Florida State Seminoles and the Florida Gators… surely we can make it happen, right?
