Like many other college students, I’m absolutely addicted to caffeine. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I’m pulling a latte out of the fridge and having it for breakfast. I can’t start my day without it! Then when the afternoon hits, I’m finding the nearest coffee place and ordering whatever my heart desires to get through the rest of my classwork. It’s a routine that’s only gotten worse as I’ve gotten older, but hey, we all could use a little energy.
Thankfully, due to Tallahassee being a “college town,” there are so many places on and around FSU’s campus to fuel this addiction. Here are some of the most convenient locations to get your caffeine fix.
- STARBUCKS
-
Starting with the quickest place to visit on this list. There are four Starbucks locations spread out on campus: one in the Student Union, Strozier,  Dirac, and a mobile order-only one in 1851. Since all of the locations are in busy areas, there are usually people sitting around doing schoolwork or catching up with their friends, but it’s reliable and easy. Personally, I’m not immune to a classic pumpkin spice latte to celebrate the season!
- PATCHWORK COFFEE
-
This is a cute, vintage-inspired coffee shop inside Ruge Hall. There’s plenty of seating for students and locals alike to visit and meet with people, as well as space to calmly catch up on work. It’s praised for its laid-back and homey atmosphere, and, in addition to providing a chill space for people to do as they please. They also occasionally host latte art events for the whole community to participate in.
- LUCKY GOAT COFFEE
-
Originating in Tallahassee, Lucky Goat Coffee is a fresh and modern coffee shop that actually roasts and distributes its own beans. It’s a short car ride from campus, which unfortunately translates to a 30-minute walk, but it’s worth the hype. It’s also a great, quiet place to sit down and get some work done without any distractions.
- THE SWEET SHOP COFFEE & LOUNGE
-
Is it even an FSU coffee list without a mention of The Sweet Shop? Located across the street from campus near Landis and Magnolia, this cozy cafe has been a staple at FSU since the 1920s. Whether you’re craving a quick cup of coffee or are in need of a snack in between classes, Sweet Shop has got you covered. You never know who you’re going to see there, which only adds to the charm!
- CALVIN’S COFFEE HOUSE
-
This cozy coffee house is the perfect place to go and have a relaxing coffee or catch up with a friend. It’s located near the FSU College of Music and has board games, a printing lounge, and an outdoor patio for maximum hangout potential. They also host several events each month, from open mic nights to fun festivals, and even food drives to help the community. There’s something for everyone, and they do a great job of making everyone feel welcome.
No matter what you’re in the mood for, there’s sure to be a coffee place nearby that’ll match the vibe of the day. Next time you’re in need of a caffeinated pick-me-up, keep this list in the back of your mind, and enjoy!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think it’s time for my afternoon coffee.
