Pumpkin spice lattes have dominated the autumn coffee market for years, and as amazing as they are, sometimes we need to mix it up a little. Whether you’re bored of the hype or simply looking for a fun new way to spice up your coffee order, Glasgow has some great alternatives that are worth adding to your autumn bucket list.
Here are my top recommendations for drinks that give you that autumnal feeling without being overdone.
1. Koju Coffee’s Salted Maple Latte
If you believe autumn is the season for all things sweet, cosy and comforting, Koju Coffee’s salted maple latte is a must-try. When I tried it, I was immediately sold on its perfect balance of sweet maple syrup and a subtle hint of salt. Unlike pumpkin spice, which gets its autumnal taste from cinnamon and spice, this latte gets its autumnal taste from warm sweet maple.
The maple syrup is consistent in every sip (meaning there’s no mouthful of just syrup at the end), and the salt balances out the sweetness perfectly. It’s indulgent and comforting without being overly sweet.
At £4.50, I’d argue it’s well worth the money, especially paired with Koju’s cosy atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that’s perfect for a catch up with friends after a busy day of studying.

2. Offshore’s Ruby Latte
Raspberry flavours might be associated with summer, but Offshore proves they can hold a place in your autumn coffee rotation too. It’s a typical latte with a pump of raspberry syrup, and I had mine with coconut milk, which was the perfect bridge between the bright, sweet raspberry and the earthy, comforting espresso. The result is a surprisingly cosy drink and a great option if you want a break from the typical spice and cinnamon-heavy pumpkin spice options. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something a little unexpected without sacrificing that comforting autumn coffee feeling.
Offshore’s bright, welcoming interior is also an amazing place to escape the dreary Glasgow weather. With tables and sofas to study on and free Wi-Fi, it’s become one of my go-to spots for a quick study break or a catch-up with friends. If you’re feeling peckish, I love to pair my coffee with one of their vegan pastries for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
If you’re looking for an autumn drink that’s a little unexpected, I’d definitely give it a go.

3. SMUG coffee’s glasgow fog
For those cold days when you want something warm but don’t quite fancy a coffee, SMUG’s Glasgow Fog is a perfect alternative. Inspired by the London Fog, spiced Earl Grey tea is mixed with steamed milk and butterscotch syrup to make a sweet, comforting drink for rainy Glasgow days. The butterscotch adds a perfect autumnal kick, making this a great pick if you want to try something new.
Smug coffee is tucked away behind the JMS making it perfect for a quick catchup between classes. I personally love pairing my drink with one of their toasted bagel sandwiches for a lunch break amongst uni life. If you’re on the go SMUG has offered student deals on takeaway drinks, which makes it ideal for grabbing something quick on a busy day.

4. black sheep coffee’s maple pecan latte
If subtle flavours aren’t really your thing, Black Sheep Coffee’s maple pecan latte is here to deliver. It has a bold, nutty flavour with plenty of sweetness, and it’s a perfect autumnal pick-me-up. The maple adds sweetness while the pecan brings a delicious, toasty nuttiness. While pumpkin spice gets its signature flavour from warm spices, this coffee leans into strong nutty caramel like flavours. If your go to is a caramel latte I would make this a must try as they post share that perfect warm toasty flavour. It’s sweet and indulgent, and perfect for busy mornings. Black Sheep is a popular study spot with indoor seating and free wifi.
If you’re not in the mood for coffee, you can also try the flavour with matcha or hojicha, which gives you extra room to customise while keeping those toasty, satisfying flavours. I love how many customisation options black sheep offers, through changing your milk, syrup, or their new cold foams, you can really make your drink your own. Students can also get 20% off with a verified UNiDAYS account, making it an even more tempting stop between lectures.

While pumpkin spice lattes will always have a special place in my heart, these autumn alternatives prove there’s a whole other world of seasonal drinks to explore. So when your next coffee date calls, why not switch up your order and give one of these local spots a try?
