#10 Couples Of Movies And Series Which Never Existed But We Always Shipped

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

Ah, the fictional love stories! Always so perfect and magical… Everything is flawless on the screen’s romances. Well, not everything: sometimes the movie writers forget some couples who clearly should have been together. And that’s when the public’s imagination takes over the plot and creates their own romantic novels – often much better than the originals. So Her Campus Casper Libero made a selection of 10 couples who never really got together, but we certainly shipped. Let’s see if you agree!

Phoebe and Joey – “Friends” (1994)

Have you ever fallen in love with your best friend? Well, those two sadly not. Nothing against Mike, but let’s admit that we all hope a little bit for Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) to be together. Both had super fun personalities and sometimes even joked about having something more. Well, at least they kissed twice during the series.

Timon and Pumbaa – “The Lion King” (1994)

Can we agree that this couple is totally real? Although Disney never made it official, the public strongly believes that Timon and Pumbaa have romantic feelings for each other. The story of two characters who came together after being excluded from society resembles the trajectory of some real-life LGBTQ+ couples. Finally, they adopted Simba and formed a family which is really cute!

Ryan and Chad – “High School Musical” (2006)

Suspicions have always existed, but it was during the baseball game of the second film that the ship became strongly real. The chemistry runs wild during the song “I Don’t Dance” and no one can convince us otherwise! Oh, and we can’t forget that, in the end of the performance, Chad (Corbin Bleu) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) appear wearing each other’s clothes. We still wonder when that exchange happened…

Hermione and Draco Malfoy – “Harry Potter” (2001)

One of the most beloved ships in the saga’s fandom is Dramione. It is that old story of forbidden love in the style of Romeo and Juliet. Draco (Tom Felton) is a bad boy and is controlled by the Slytherin supremacist family. Hermione (Emma Watson) is a Muggle-born Gryffindor who is not afraid to defend the values in which she believes. Why wouldn’t they fall in love with each other? Well, we have our doubts…

Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood – “Harry Potter” (2001)

The truth is that this list could only be with Harry Potter characters. Another famous ship is Lunarry. Many potterheads imagine that Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) would have been happier with Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch). The ship makes a lot of sense when we take into account the fact that Gina Weasley (Bonnie Wright) is totally uninteresting and has little screen time in the movies. In addition, Harry and Luna star in moments full of chemistry and empathy during the plot of the films.

Pocahontas and Nakoma – “Pocahontas” (1995)

Not everyone remembers, but Pocahontas had a best friend in the Disney animation. Some fans built a narrative in which this friend, called Nakoma, is in love with the princess, and that is why she always tried to prevent her from being with John Smith. They have really cute scenes together and we bet if you watch the movie again you’ll see that this theory makes a lot of sense!

Bellamy and Clarke – “The 100” (2014)

From the beginning, we can feel the sexual tension between these two. Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) are strong leaders who would be even more powerful together. Maybe if they weren’t so busy struggling to survive on the post-apocalyptic Earth, they could live a romance together. What do you think of this couple?

Haymitch and Effie – “The Hunger Games” (2012)

Do you know the classic “opposites attract”? The sloppy drunk and the elegant woman are always teasing and criticizing each other, but deep down they are passionate. Their dialogues were fun, but they also had more serious and sensitive moments. Even though they were not a real couple, they certainly had a special affection for each other.

Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) – “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011)

Stucky is one of the most popular ships in the Avengers universe. We’re used to seeing two male characters as just good friends, but it’s all on the screen! There is no denying the relationship between Steve (Chris Evans) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan): They do everything for each other. As unlikely as this couple is, and even if Marvel doesn’t give us what we want, there is a world of fanfics and fanarts that you can use to satisfy your shipping heart.

Gaston and Lefou – “Beauty and the Beast” (2017)

Last but not least, we have Gaston (Luke Evans) and Lefou (Josh Gad). In the live action of  “Beauty and the Beast” we can see Lefou’s feelings for his partner more clearly. But some people believe that this is not such a one-sided relationship. If we think about it, Gaston just wants to be with the only woman who doesn’t want to date him, which raises the question: Is this just an excuse for not being with any woman at all? We may never know!

These were some of the love stories that were left out by the screenwriters, but never forgotten by us, incurable romantics. What matters is that, at least in our hearts, they lived happily ever after!
