The Holy Cough

Being back at school means getting back into the swing of things: balancing academics, work, clubs, sports, hanging out with friends, etc. Reconnecting as a community after summer is a very important and exciting transition. Within all of the fun and chaos of being back on campus, there is one unfortunate and inevitable thing all students have to deal with at one point or another…the holy cough. I fended it off as long as I could, starting out the semester strong and healthy. However, between eating, living, studying, and spending time with other people, I was bound to get sick sooner or later. My sickness has come in waves these past few weeks. Starting off with the usual fever and aches, I took a day off from classes to regroup and rest, which really helped, or so I thought. A few days later, after socializing all day at the Family Weekend tailgate, my voice slowly disappeared and transitioned into a quiet raspy sound. And that brings us to the present day, where I cannot stop coughing for the life of me.

Being sick at school sucks, but we have to remember to make our health a number one priority. Health Services on campus are located in Loyola Hall, where they can help you get back on your feet and feeling back to normal. It can be tempting to push through the sickness and keep up with classes, assignments, and social plans, but sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down and give your body the rest it needs. My advice to you is to get plenty of sleep, eat well, drink plenty of tea, and take precautions to avoid spreading germs. Keep your overall health in mind at all times: believe me, it’s hard to enjoy everything campus has to offer when you’re coughing every five seconds!
