When life feels boring or repetitive, a small change around you can easily brighten up your mood. A fun way to change things up is to personalize the most-used items around you, and it’s quite simple to do! Here are some everyday items you can easily personalize.
- Boxes
-
Jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, letter boxes, or any box can become something completely your own. Paint the outside, add wallpaper to the inside, or divide it into sections for all your treasures. I especially like decorating boxes that have been sitting around the house because it gives them a new purpose.
- Headphones
-
If you’re always losing your headphones (like me), you can make a little case for them out of fabric, crochet one, or even sew a tiny pouch with your initials on it. You can also add a cord wrap or switch out the ear pad covers and mix-and-match them in different colors.
- Journals
-
Journals are already pretty personal, but decorating the outside can make them feel more like yours. You can add a leather case, stickers, lace, pictures, or little notes that remind you of the good times.
- Books
-
You can easily customize your books by doodling in them, annotating them, or adding unique bookmarks. My favorite not-really-a-bookmark bookmarks are photo booth pictures or postcards from vacation. It’s fun finding them again whenever I pick up the book.
- Bags
-
Your bag can be a place to keep little reminders of the things you love. Instead of buying a bunch of decorations specifically for it, try using things you have accumulated over the years: a ribbon from a past gift, a friendship bracelet, a pin from a museum, or a keychain from a trip.
- Your Laptop
-
Laptops are one of the easiest things to personalize because there’s so much space to work with. Try making a little collage on the inside of a clear case with old receipts, tiny drawings, stamps, or pieces of packaging you like. Even something small, like naming your folders after inside jokes, can make your laptop feel more like it belongs to you.
Canva - Your Wallet
-
Wallets are small enough that you can fill them with tiny things that would otherwise get lost. Keep a handwritten note, a pressed flower, a movie ticket, or a tiny piece of paper from somewhere you went inside.
You don’t have to buy something new to make it yours. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of you and your clutter.
