Okay, so being on a college campus Wi-Fi and trying to scroll TikTok is literally equivalent to trying to do anything on the iPhone 13 at any given moment. Because of that, I have made the mindful decision to switch from TikTok doomscrolling to curating colorful collections on Pinterest!
In the midst of browsing, I fell into the deepest depths of 2010s Tumblr culture where you couldn’t leave the house without seeing a fresh set of galaxy leggings and a mustache shirt. I literally teared up from how beautiful the sight was, and it made me miss when colorful outfits and home designs were a staple and not considered “bold” or “trendsetting.” Today, everything is filtered through what’s trending online or minimalistic decor for the house.
To combat these sad sights, I’ve made a small but mighty list of easy ways to incorporate more color into everyday life!
- Accessorize to the Max
-
Accessories are one of the easiest ways to bring a pop of color into different outfits. As someone who enjoys the simplicity of a traditional blue-jean-black-top moment, I like being able to throw on some gold bangles or necklaces with cute, colorful stones in the middle to brighten up the look.
There are also so many places online or local thrift shops that sell a variety of jewelry for pretty cheap. Now, they might turn green and tarnish after 10 seconds of having them on, but if you can look past that, then they really are cute staple pieces to have on hand.
Outside the jewelry realm of accessories, my favorite thing to incorporate into my outfits is hair clips. Years of shopping have shown me that the place with the cutest options is actually Hot Topic. I recently found the cutest shark one that had the mouth open and close whenever you would go to use it.
- Paper Chains
-
This is more of a decorative piece, but whether it goes in the dorm room or living room, I think that they are so fun and just bring some extra color into your space. Essentially, it’s a bunch of pieces of construction paper that get cut into strips and all taped together to resemble a chain that you hang up or tape to the ceiling so they just hang around.
I have some above my bed that are garnet and gold (#GoNoles), but having them has just brought some life into my sad beige baby walls. It’s also a fun craft to do both with friends and on my own time, so it’s a two-in-one, bang-for-your-buck incorporation.
- Color That Hair!
-
Of the three, this is the one I find is the best solution for bringing color into daily routines and life because every time you look in the mirror, there’s always a fun color to see.
I forever recommend it to people who even have a fleeting thought of “Would I look good in this?” because the answer is always yes; you absolutely will. It’s something that doesn’t have to be there forever, either.
Getting a cheap, semi-permanent dye that washes out quickly with a ton of hot showers is a perfect solution and is the option I usually pick. It’s not for everybody, and that is totally okay, but it never hurts to try out something new.
And that is my small but mighty list of things to incorporate into your life to bring a pop of color! Having some extra fun colors in life never hurts anybody, and I find it to be one of the best ways to bring out the better side of myself, especially when I’m having a bad day. Being able to walk into my room and see my chains hanging down or looking down at my bright pink nails never fails to bring a little comfort.
