This week in the ballroom was really something. There were lots of fabulous dances and funny/wow moments throughout the show, making it possibly one of the best weeks so far. Everyone channeled their inner divas and leading men to entertain us and honor Mariah Carey. The night did, however, end in a shocking elimination (we’ll get into that). Without further ado let’s recap the night’s most memorable moments for me:
- Show Opener
I truly feel like this week might have had the best opener of the season. It didn’t feel like they were doing bare minimum, and it provided just the right amount of energy. I also loved the display setups being the whole carnival theme. It really gave 90’s Mariah Carey. From the rhinestones to the blue jeans, this opener was very fun, lighthearted, and cute.
- Ezra & Daniella
It comes as no surprise that Ezra once again delivered a magnificent dance in the ballroom. He showed great hip action throughout and truly made the dance feel sensual and flowy. I also loved the role reverse of the ground spin move towards the end. Another thing I couldn’t help but to be reminded of was how similar Ezra looked to Prince Eric with his outfit, so that’s a plus. I know I say it every week, but this pairing is so good, and it truly is a testament to both individuals. Daniella continues to provide astonishing and elevated choreography that Ezra crushes every week.
- Harry and Jenna
At this point I think it’s safe to say that Harry and Jenna like to put a little spice at the end of their dances. Their tango this week continued that and was chef’s kiss. To top it all off, they even had Amber Riley singing live. Harry had great leg work throughout the dance, and I felt that it was very clean and sharp. It was very satisfying and fun to watch!
- Connor & Rylee
I actually was looking forward to this dance after hearing which song they received. Going off Connor’s personality and his dynamic with Rylee, I knew I would be entertained and that there would be plenty of moments leaving me shocked and punching the air. The dance gave Rumba with those hips and overall, Connor proved he could be a leading man. I loved seeing everyone’s reaction on the balcony to his recreation of the hip action too. Their faces were literally mine when he did that, which kind of made me giggle a bit. I will say, I would like to see more emotion in his facial expressions. He always looks so focused that he kind of looks like he has a blank stare on his face all the time.
- Amber & Pasha
Amber’s dance was good and a very solid Rumba. The steps paired very well with the song choice, so good job on Pasha’s part. I loved the extensions in her limbs that Amber showcased too. It brought a sense of elegance to the dance. The trick at the end felt a bit unnecessary though. I felt like it left an awkward pause, and it was a bit wobbly while she was trying to extend outward. I’m sure that next week’s dance will be great though.
- Ciara & Brandon’s Elimination
I was utterly shocked by the elimination. I kind of figured it was going to go left when my best friend texted me and asked if I had finished watching the show. To say I was shocked is an understatement; I literally fell to the ground. When the moment came, though I wanted Guillermo to go home, I never in a million years thought it would be Ciara. I thought for sure it was going to be Jackson based off the way America’s been voting. There’s nothing anyone can do about it now though.
For those keeping up with this season, next week is Superbowl week! The couples will be dancing to songs from different halftime performers. I don’t recall them ever doing a theme like this, so I am curious to see how this plays out. There will also be a guest judge, Joe Buck, who is a sports commentator. Don’t forget to tune in this Tuesday at 8pm EST!
