Costume planning is here. For many, the search for the perfect costume starts far in advance. Yet with Halloween right around the corner, we can’t overlook our pets (and the costume that they definitely want to wear). While it could be said that pet costumes are cruel, these costume options are worth the purchase and a quick photo afterward. On the bright side, these costumes can be recycled each year as Halloween rolls around.

Currently, chains like PetSmart and Petco offer a wide selection of costumes for dogs, cats, hamsters, and reptiles. The options range from wigs to full get-ups. If you want to match with your furry friend, a brief internet search may surprise you. Luckily, these options are fairly affordable and extremely cute. With that, let’s explore some of the outfits that stood out.

Bob Ross

This time it is not a Chia Pet or a bobble-head, but a Bob Ross costume marketed for both dogs and cats. This costume has every feature imaginable, including a brown, curly-haired wig and an outfit with hands that hold a paintbrush and easel. The costume sits at a $19.99 price point and can be purchased from various retailers. If you think your costume is still too niche for a matching counterpart, then keep reading.

Grandma

You may not have known this was an option. This “Grandma” costume features a fluffy grey wig, pearl necklace, floral dress, purple handbag and a cane. Similarly, this costume attaches to the front of the animal, giving the illusion of a body. The detailed touches on this outfit make it worth the purchase. For only $20, Petco offers this costume in sizes x-small, small, medium, and large. The costume can be purchased both in-store and online.

French Beret

If you do not own a dog or cat, do not fear. Guinea pig owners, you’re in luck! Believe it or not, costumes for guinea pigs are widely available. On Chewy.com, you can purchase a tiny French beret with an elastic chin strap that attaches to the head of your guinea pig. While this costume isn’t elaborate, the beret is a perfect touch. Another plus, the beret is only $5.58. It’s simple, but adorable.

Saint Patricks

This outfit is tiny and handmade, straight from Etsy. For bearded dragons or lizards, this decked-out outfit includes a checkered bandana and green leprechaun-style hat. There are varying size options tailored to the size of your reptile. This festive outfit can be purchased here: Small Pet Outfit.

“Meowbucks” Barista

Last but not least, the Meowbucks Barista costume has both fun wordplay and is a handmade costume from Etsy. This costume, made for cats, includes a green apron with a Starbucks logo on the front. The best part: instead of the classic mermaid we see on Starbucks’ logo, there is a cat face replacing it. This costume is a great option if you want to avoid something that is too involved or that sits on the head of your animal.
