Concert day is like nothing else. Whether it’s your first time at an artist’s show or you’re a seasoned concertgoer, the excitement starts way before the lights go down. Being prepared can make or break your experience, from choosing the right outfit to making sure your phone lasts the whole night.
Having spent too much time waiting for a concert to arrive, I’ve learned there are some essentials that can help make the night go smoother, less stressful and way more fun. Below is a list of everything I recommend bringing to your next show.
A portable power bank
The one thing you can’t live without? A portable charger. As you take photos, record videos, check tickets, text friends and post on social media, your phone battery will drain quickly.
The last thing you want is to have a dead phone when you’re trying to get a ride home or record your favorite song. The charger must be fully charged before you leave. Don’t forget the right charging cable.
Your Ticket and Identification
This may sound like a no-brainer, but always double-check that you have your ticket and identification before walking out. Many clubs require IDs to get in, especially if they are serving alcohol.
I typically screenshot my ticket and save it to my favorites in case I lose service or the venue wifi is being uncooperative.
An Approved Bag for Small Venues
Most concert venues have strict bag policies, so be sure to check the venue’s website before heading out. Often a small clear bag is the best choice as it is easy to carry and leaves your hands free. Bring only what you need so you don’t have to dig through a giant bag while trying to enjoy the show.
Comfortable footwear
Those heels or platform boots may be cute, but you’ll likely be on your feet for a couple of hours. Trust me, your feet will thank you later if you go for comfort over fashion.
That doesn’t mean you can’t create a cute concert outfit with sneakers, boots with support or other comfortable shoes that won’t have you regretting your choices halfway through the opening act.
A sweet and practical outfit
Part of the fun is getting dressed for a concert. Regardless of the concert, country, pop, rap or indie festival, try to find a happy medium between style and comfort.
Consider the weather, the venue, and how long you’ll be on your feet. Layers are always a good idea, especially for outdoor fall concerts when the temperature can change over the course of the night. Â
Water & Hydration Plans
Many venues will provide water bottles sealed or have water stations within. Concerts can be hot, crowded and exhausting, especially if you have to wait in line for hours beforehand.
Drink plenty of water the day before the concert. Drink plenty of water and you won’t be exhausted halfway through the show, so you can enjoy the experience.
Cash and a backup payment choice
Most venues accept credit and mobile payments, but it’s wise to have a little cash on hand just in case. Merchandise stands, parking lots, and local vendors may sometimes offer limited payment options. A backup payment option will spare you from missing out on a tour shirt or a late night food run after the concert.
Optional Ear ProtectionÂ
It might not be the most glamorous concert essential, but it’s one of the most important. Concerts often reach volume levels that can damage your hearing.
With High Fidelity earplugs, you can lower the volume and still enjoy your all-time favorite songs.Protecting your hearing today means you can enjoy concerts for years to come.
A Transportation Plan
Know how you’re getting home before the concert even starts. Whether you’re driving, using a ride-share app, taking public transportation, or getting a ride with friends, having a plan can go a long way to reduce stress after the show is over. Normally, thousands of people exit a venue at the same time, so knowing where to meet your party or request your ride can prevent a lot of confusion.
Don’t Forget Live in the Moment
It’s easy to get swept up in recording videos for social media during the entire concert, but remember to take in the experience. Some of my best concert memories are not the videos on my phone they’re the moments I was actually there and singing along with thousands of other fans.
Take pictures, get some videos of your favorite songs, and then put your phone down every now and then. You’ll be shocked how much more memorable it can be.
Closing Thoughts
Concerts are some of the most exciting experiences you’ll have, but a little preparation can make them even more. Packing the right essentials will keep you organized, comfortable and ready to enjoy every moment. Whether you’re going to your first concert or your fifteenth, these items can help ensure that the only thing you need to worry about is having the time of your life.
