Dear diary,

I have learned that me and the dark don’t work too well together. Today, my friends and I had an end of summer celebration at my sister’s house. As soon as the sky was completely dark, my friends thought it was a wonderful idea to play a game of “man hunt,” and of course I wasn’t opposed because there is nothing better than playing childhood games. Obviously, we are in the dark, and I have seen horror movies, and judging by my skin completion, my people are typically the ones to die first. So, I thought of the brilliant idea to play in partnerships, and it worked out perfectly. We picked out the seekers and of course I get paired up with the one boy I had hoped to never be with… Rick. Seeing as I didn’t want to make a scene, I got myself up and acted like I didn’t care, when in reality, my blood was boiling because God knows this boy’s intentions with me. And I was doing everything I could to stay away from him.

Finally, it’s time to start counting. 1, 2, 3, and before I can fix my lips to say 4 I’m interrupted. “You look good tonight.” I tried my best to just smile and ignore him but it kept going. “I’m glad we are partners. I wanted to be alone with you tonight.” Now granted, I know I am a kind girl, but I’m not flirty. I had tried my best to de-escalate the situation, and fast before he could continue to get the wrong idea. Unfortunately for me, I was not fast enough because at this point, we were 40 seconds into counting and he was somehow sitting right up next to me. I kept counting in my head, but little did I know that each second would lead closer to my death. At this point, I had to start counting all over again because I was rudely distracted. 1, 2, 3, and before I can get to 4, I see his puckered lips approaching my face. In that moment I had to act quickly. What did I do?… I shot up and shouted “Hey I think the timer is up!” As I stood there I stared at him sitting on the ground. Lips still puckered but now his eyes were wide open. Now before, I know I said I was awaiting my death, but I misspoke. The only thing that died that night were Ricks’ chances of ever seeing me again, and that I can promise.
