Not All Celebrities Are Humans: An Introduction to Meeka The Husky

Jaylyn Davis Student Contributor, University of Connecticut
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

We’ve all got a favorite celebrity. Whether it’s Taylor Swift, Ryan Reynolds, Dolly Parton, Dave Chappelle, or Naomi Campbell, we all have that one person who floats in our mind every single day. We scroll through their social media posts, we gossip about them with our friends, we research their background, and we constantly praise them for being an influential figure.

I have a lot of celebrities on my likes list. Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Shakira, and the Indigo Girls are always filling my ears. If I’m not listening to music, I’ll be watching movies that feature some of the Avengers actors and actresses like Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., and Scarlett Johansson. Besides music and television, I love reading literature from various authors, including Veronica Roth, James Dashner, Lois Lowry, and Jane Austen. I’m also a fan of social media influencers. Every winter, I watch Hotdog Hans shorts on YouTube, and I keep track of Mikaela Shiffrin on Instagram. While both are amazing, they’re not my favorite celebrities. Neither are Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Miley, the Avengers stars, or the authors I like reading literature from.

To give you a hint, my favorite celebrity isn’t a human. She’s a husky.

Meet Meeka, a renowned social media influencer from Florida. For the past few years, she’s been attracting people from all around the globe. Her owners film videos of Meeka doing hilarious things that’ll get a giggle out of you. The videos cover an array of topics, including food and nature. Meeka has so many amazing videos that it was difficult to choose which ones to cover for the article. After a long, careful elimination process, I determined that these 10 videos give a wonderful overview of Meeka.

Get ready for some serious laughs.

1. Meeka Doesn’t Like Kisses

Nearly every dog loves to kiss their owner. They could spend minutes licking their face like it’s a Popsicle. Other times, the roles will switch. Some dogs appreciate their owner’s lips. They’ll just chill like everything’s cool.

But for Meeka, that’s not the case.

Clearly, Meeka doesn’t like it when her owner puts some XOXO on her cheek. Her groans tell us that she absolutely hates it. Yet she tells her owner she loves him more. I don’t know if that should be interpreted as sarcasm or plain irony.

2. She Speaks Perfect English, Literally

The unique thing about huskies is the way their howls shape speech. According to the American Kennel Club, because huskies are very sensitive to human speech, they tend to mimic what their owners frequently say. Meeka can confirm.

In the video, Meeka’s owner said, “Love it” and “You do.” More likely, she said that a million times before, allowing Meeka to capture the sounds and say them back. I find it very adorable, especially since Meeka’s talking like a human. I guess we could say that Meeka will be our next linguist.

3. Meeka Loves to Blame Her Brother

If you have a sibling, you’ve probably had this experience.

Life With a Husky & Golden Retriever Be Like… 👀😳

Don’t you love it when something goes wrong, and the involved parties blame each other? That’s what happens in the video. Meeka’s owner discovers the chips are gone, and right off the bat, Meeka blames Henry, the golden retriever, while Meeka’s owner tries to find out who ate the chips. It’s clear that one of the dogs consumed them, and Meeka tries to convince her owner that it was Henry.

But spoiler alert! Henry didn’t eat the chips. Meeka did!

4. Meeka’s Against Cell Phone Addictions

Ah, yes. Cell phone addictions. The number one thing that people deal with all the time. They’ve become so ubiquitous that even dogs like Meeka are beginning to recognize them.

@meekathehusky

My Husky Demands My Attention 😳👀 Send this to someone always on their phone!📱

♬ original sound – Meeka The Husky 🐺💕

Supposedly, Meeka just wants attention, according to the video’s title. And she is indeed trying to obtain it, given the subtitles say, “Pay attention to me” and “I do whatever I want.” But what she really wants is for her owner to get off his phone. After all, she wants him to pay attention to her because he spends all day on his device, ignoring Meeka. I feel like if more dogs conduct this kind of behavior, then cell phone addictions might dwindle, at least in the home.

5. Meeka Thinks Palm Trees are…Bones?

Like, what? How can you protest against a cell phone addiction and speak perfect English but not distinguish between a tree and a bone? I mean, sure, the tree is very thin, like a dog bone, but it’s 10 times bigger.

Maybe Meeka desperately wanted something to chew on. Hence why she kept calling the palm tree a bone.

6. Sometimes, She Just can’t Pick a Side

Illnesses are etched into our daily lives. No matter how healthy we are, we still have those unfortunate instances of catching a cold or a harsh disease. When that happens, the people we know and love take care of us. They offer medicine, hot food, and anything else we want.

But what happens when they don’t think we’re sick? Or when we accidentally give them our germs?

@meekathehusky

Telling My Husky Im Sick & She FREAKS OUT! 😳👀

Meeka doesn’t think her owner’s sick. But she says, “You gonna get me sick too.” Sometimes, I feel like Meeka can be unpredictable. But not in a horrible way. In my opinion, her indecisiveness adds humor to her glamorous personality.

One thing I’ll comment on is Meeka’s reaction to her owner coughing on her. Not only is it comical, but it comes to show that dogs aren’t stupid. They may not be able to build rockets or solve science experiments, but they can recognize inappropriate acts such as coughing on someone. You’d think dogs would ignore you if you were to give them a speck of your bacteria. While it may be true for some dogs, Meeka doesn’t let that slide.

7. Let Me Tell You, Meeka’s Very, Very Impudent With Her Owner

Do you have a dog that loves to give you sass? My dogs are like that. Whenever I do something stupid, they’ll bark at me nonstop.

But my dogs’ sass is nothing compared to Meeka’s.

@meekathehusky

My Husky Refuses To Give Me A Hug After The Gym! (She Says I’m STINKY) 😳👀

♬ original sound – Meeka The Husky 🐺💕

Like, damn. Meeka doesn’t sugarcoat any of it. She simply kicks her owner out of the room, demanding he take a shower.

It’s not entirely her owner’s fault, though. A dog’s nose is up to 100,000 times stronger than a human’s. Because of that, dogs can pick up a million more scents than we can. So, even though Meeka’s owner might not consider himself stinky, his nose is too weak to pick up the true strength of his workout stench.

8. Meeka’s a Professional Movie Critic

Have you ever watched a movie with your dog? If so, what was the experience? Did your dog close their eyes and fall asleep? Did they follow along and watch the TV in silence?

Well, here’s what Meeka does when she watches Finding Nemo with her owner.

@meekathehusky

Watching A Disney Movie With Meeka Goes Wrong 😱😂

♬ original sound – Meeka The Husky 🐺💕

As we can see, Meeka doesn’t just watch the movie. She critiques it. I haven’t watched Finding Nemo in a few years, so I don’t entirely remember what happens in that scene. But whatever unfolded, Meeka didn’t appreciate it. It makes me wonder how often Meeka does that whenever she watches something with her owner. Perhaps critiquing movie scenes is one of her secret hobbies.

9. Meeka Loves to Race Winter

To give a little bit of background information, Winter was an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. When she was two months old, she was brought to Clearwater Marine Aquarium after losing her tail from a fishing net. Winter was very inspirational to those who had prosthetics and missing limbs. She unfortunately passed away from an intestinal abnormality in 2021.

Meeka & Winter The Dolphin Play SO CUTE together! 😱💕 @cmaquarium 🐬

♬ Under The Sea – The Main Street Band & Orchestra

I find it cute that Meeka and Winter raced each other. Usually, dolphins and other aquatic animals mind their own business, not caring about the people who are watching them. I wonder if other people watched Meeka and Winter’s race, seeing who’d win.

10. lastly, Meeka’s a Talented Singer

Do you celebrate your dog’s birthday? If not, you should consider it, especially if your dog loves to sing.

@meekathehusky

My Husky Sings The Happy Birthday Song! 🎶👀😳

♬ original sound – Meeka The Husky 🐺💕

How rare is it for a dog to sing happy birthday with their owners? It has to be one in a million. The fact that Meeka sings with her owners is incredibly heartwarming. The way Meeka’s owners celebrate Meeka’s birthday is stellar as well. They don’t just get a cupcake and a dog bone, but they even get gifts and dress Meeka up! It just goes to show you that dogs aren’t just pets. They’re family. Because of that, their birthdays should be celebrated the same way a parent, sibling, or child’s birthday is celebrated.
