The Only Living Girl In Boston: How To Be Alone

It’s Sunday morning. You wake up with no texts on your phone, homework to avoid, and a missing roommate. You’re officially all alone. Most would sink into puddles of despair, thinking about a better time when your friends texted back.

But that’s not going to be you. Days off are rare, and you have the gift of one all alone. Here are some ways to fill your empty Sunday:

Boston Commons

Find a good bench or a nice patch of grass under a tree. Sit and put on a really good playlist or audiobook. Look out into the distance and think or people-watch. Maybe do some homework. That’s what I would do, but of course, do whatever pleases you. It’s your day, after all!

Beacon Hill Books And Cafe

When your real life doesn’t live up to your standards, there’s nothing better than diving into a good story about someone else’s. Walk into this store and immerse yourself in all kinds of great books. If you get hungry, you can walk down the steps to their cafe. Fair warning: the cafe may get packed at times, but there are so many other great places to eat in Beacon Hill!

Cobblestones

Speaking of great places to eat in Beacon Hill, Cobblestones is a great eatery to have a meal by yourself. Don’t be embarrassed to have a meal alone — it’s a good time to touch base with yourself and consider what you truly want. There’s no better time than over a Cobblestones Tuscan Kale Caesar and Butterfly Peach Tea.

Christopher Columbus Park

If you ever want to disappear for a few hours, this is the place to go! A 41-minute T ride away (but well worth it), this park perfectly accomplishes your goal of being far away from everyone who knows you exist. Bring a journal and write everything you think, all the things you’ve done that week, and the things you want to do next week. You’ll come back as a new person, or at least feel like one.

Covet

If retail therapy is your answer to loneliness, Covet is the place to be. You’ll spend hours in this consignment store going through all the stuff they have. It’s a little bit on the pricier side, but some digging and a good eye may land you a great deal.

Don’t let your solitude make you feel lonely. Get out of your room and get your mind out of the dark! Put on a cute outfit, do fun things, and come back home feeling rewarded for your long day.

Remember that being alone is not the end of the world!
