Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri is a Mexican artist and producer. He is originally from Puerto Rico; at a very young age he became a legend in México. His music spread over the years making him a known talent.
His versatile voice is beloved by his fans; he can range from singing rancheras (country) to boleros (love songs) which has made him one of the best-selling Latin Music artists with over twenty million monthly listeners on Spotify. He started his music career at the age of twelve with his debut recording named “Uno + Uno Dos Enamorados” which became an instant hit. He gained a few nicknames as his music career grew, such as “El Sol de México” and “El Sinatra Latino”. One of his largest accomplishments was winning his first grammy. He was the youngest male in history to win a grammy at just fourteen years old.
Growing up, his father pushed him past his limits which caused him to burn out. However, his mother, remains missing even today since she went missing in 1986. His father remained his manager until Luis finally denied him. his father eventually drank himself to death in 1992.
Luis’ biggest inspirations were Elvis and Frank Sinatra. While he was little, he always watched and studied Elvis’ performances, concerts and records which gave him inspiration for his own music. He deeply enjoys Sinatra’s music as well and even sang a duet with Frank Sinatra starring Sinatra’s song, “Come Fly with Me”.
During the 1980s, he released five albums, including “Soy Como Quiero ser” in 1987 which earned him 180,000 copies in Argentina and 1,250,000 copies in México. Luis also had a few iconic relationships over the years. The most famously known relationships he had were with Sofia Vergara and Mariah Carey.
My friend who is from México, introduced me to Luis Miguels music a couple of years ago. I was stunned and absolutely loved his voice from that instant. Many people may not recognize his name but more likely his songs. One of his tops songs called “La Mentira” has become very popular in past years on TikTok. People use the song in their videos but don’t really know the artist behind the music.
