I’m not sure if I can trace my interest in fashion to a particular defining moment, but I remember the idea of personal style piquing my interest when I first saw Jade West from Victorious. Since then, my personal style has developed and evolved throughout my childhood and teen years. Here are some of my personal style icons that have shaped my fashion identity, to the point where my friends will point out an article of clothing in a store window and exclaim, “Jane, that is so you!”
Childhood: Jade West (Victorious)
There are multiple things that drew me into Jade’s style, but I especially admired her highlighted hair. In fact, I loved it so much that I wore a singular purple clip-on hair extension because of her (it was definitely a phase). To me, Jade’s style is the perfect in-between of gothic and edgy rockstar.
Tweens: Billie Eilish
To this day, Billie’s streetwear influence is the backbone of my personal style. Her everyday style best reflects what I like to wear on a day-to-day basis (cool and comfy!). I’m a big fan of the graphic tee and baggy jeans combo, so the inspo photo I’ve attached is something I would totally wear strolling between classes!
Mid-Teens: Victoria de Angelis (Måneskin)
Victoria is the true encapsulation of the “rockstar girlfriend” vibe, and I love how her outfits reflect the modern rockstar that she is. People who know me know that I am a leopard (and other animal!) print connoisseur, something I borrowed from Victoria’s style.
Late Teens: Momo (TWICE)
My interest in K-pop also introduced me to K-idol fashion, which is best seen in their airport photos (iykyk). Momo’s style strikes me as similar to Billie’s, but with a certain feminine flair.
Bonus: Ningning (aespa)
Ningning has a certain edge to her that most other K-idols lack, and her tracksuit look here is so chic!
