Fall is finally here!
As a first year college student, I have quickly discovered that one of the best parts of autumn is watching the entire campus transform. Dorms get redecorated, sweaters appear, and seasonal drinks become a personality trait.
Buying Pumpkin Spice Lattes has always been a monumental thing for my caffeine obsessed family, but in a recent conversation with my roommate, I had the startling realization that not everyone feels as warmly to coffee. I know, crazy right?
Thankfully, there’s a lengthy list of other seasonal drinks, and after some completely unofficial research (meaning I thought about it for a while), I came to the important conclusion that your favorite fall drink might reveal more about your personality than you realize. Although this is in my personal opinion, these are traits that might just match your favorite fall-themed drinks.
Pumpkin Spice Coffee: The Fall Enthusiast.
It would be nearly illegal to not start off with the most famous drink of fall, pumpkin flavored coffee. Whether it’s a pumpkin spice latte, cold brew with pumpkin cold foam, or any pumpkin themed espresso, you probably feel passionate about this drink one way or another. Now, if you love it or hate it, depends on the person.
If this is your favorite treat of the season, you’ve been waiting months for this drink to return. I strongly believe that fall is something you’re very excited for. You don’t just simply enjoy fall, you celebrate it. Either before it’s even autumn or right as the seasons change, it’s time to break out the decor, sweaters, movies, and films that create a sense of wonder. You aspire for your autumn experience to be like one of the movies such as, When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, and Gilmore Girls. When you drink any pumpkin coffee, you become obsessed with the way the leaves fall and any activities you can do that might look aesthetic. You probably knew what the fall fashion trends were before September even started, and your sweater collection might be large enough to qualify as a second wardrobe. If pumpkin spice coffee is your favorite drink, you’re probably very excited to talk to anyone and everyone about fall.
Apple Cider: The Nostalgic Friend .
What would fall be without apple cider? A drink that either you grow up drinking or find at events and never disappoints. Apple cider can be served in a warm, comforting mug, or a cold, refreshing glass.
If apple cider is your personal favorite drink, you’re a sentimental and nostalgic person. You might have grown up drinking apple cider, feeling a strong warmth whenever you’re able to consume it. You tend to wear oversized clothing and big coats as fall rolls around, aspiring to be as comfortable as possible. You also are a friend-oriented person, looking to share the apple cider over movie nights or crafts. Staying inside to bake or create things from scratch, even if it’s just coloring, is your favorite pastime. Or you also enjoy some local fall events. These autumn activities might include farmers markets or orchards, loving the home-y and rustic view of fall.
Pumpkin Chai: The Comforting Adventurer.
Although it might not be the most classic drink of autumn, chai has really grown in popularity within the last few years, especially the pumpkin one. Ones like Starbucks, Pumpkin Cream Chai have become a permanent addition to the annual fall menu. With a rich, cozy, and earthy feel, this drink is a beautiful mix of spices that creates a unique appeal.
If any form of Chai is your go-to drink during autumn you’re wanting to try new things. You’re always searching for your next obsession or some sort of comfort food, bonus points if it’s seasonal. When it gets chilly outside, you prefer layers, always gravitating towards jackets, cardigans, or button-ups. You might pretend to be a lowkey or shy person, but in reality, you shine through crowds. You secretly care for people very deeply and try to show it in unique ways. You find yourself having a louder presence when surrounded by loved ones and people around you find you safe and comforting, leading many to ask you for advice.
Hot Chocolate: The Professional Cozy Person .
I know, hot chocolate? How is that a fall drink? Well it most definitely is more winter than anything, but I know many individuals who will crave chocolate right as the temperature drops. Hot chocolate is a consistent and heart-warming treat for anyone.
If you find yourself drinking this during the fall, chocolate is definitely a comfort food for you. You might find yourself craving hot chocolate all year, wanting to cozy up whenever possible. You might not be the biggest fall person, but you sure love doing anything fun like playing outside in the snow or leaves. On top of fun fall activities, you might be a huge film geek, loving all seasonal and indie movies. Family might be an important thing to you, finding yourself not wanting to grow up as a kid. Now, you have a big spirit, always dressing up for every holiday and spreading cheer to anyone who needs it.
Autumn Teas: The Blanket-and-Book Person .
If none of the super sweet drinks is your speed, you might find yourself getting excited for the autumn teas that appear during the fall. Whether you get it at a cafe or buy it in bulk from your favorite company, tea is a comforting and reliable drink.
If autumn flavored teas are your favorite drink, you love relaxing and not feeling super rushed in your day-to-day. Although things might be stressful, you find yourself creating outlets to unwind. You might also prefer indoor activities during the fall, wanting to be adventurous in a book while also loving your sleep. You probably don’t stay up too late, and love all soft things like blankets, stuffed animals, and comfy clothing. You’re content without change and notice the small details in life, wanting to appreciate every moment you’re living in.
Halloween Energy Drinks: The Caffeinated Chaos .
In sharp comparison to autumn teas, autumn-themed energy drinks might be the treat you find yourself having in hand most of the time. This can consist of Alani’s Witches Brew, Ruby Apple, Voodoo Vanilla, Bloom’s Crisp Apple and Pear Scare, or any of the other classic energy drinks.
If these drinks are most exciting to you, you might find yourself struggling to get through the colder seasons. Caffeine is starting to not make much of a difference to you, so to fix it, you stock up on a lot of energy drinks. You might be more of a spontaneous person who loves to be adventurous during the fall, whether it’s hiking, festivals, or corn mazes. You might stand out in the crowd, wearing bright colors or loving niche things. You might also find yourself dressing a little too warmly or coldly for the temperatures on a given day, but that’s understandable since you’re a big multi-tasker. You have a big range of friends and always want to feel excitement.
So, What Does Your Drink Say About You?
After everything, it’s clear that your favorite fall drink probably says something about you. Maybe you’re the pumpkin spice enthusiast who has been waiting for September since July. Maybe you’re the sentimental apple cider drink who would happily spend an afternoon at an orchard. Maybe you’re a chai lover looking for your next obsession, a hot chocolate drinker who refuses to let childhood go, a tea drinker who knows the importance of a good blanket, or an energy drink enthusiast who is somehow still functioning after three cans of caffeine.
Of course, none of this is actually scientific. Your drink doesn’t determine your personality and you are more than whatever happens to be in your cup. But it’s fun to pretend!
So as fall rolls around, take a look at whatever you’re drinking, maybe it says you’re nostalgic, or adventurous, or maybe you just really like pumpkin. Either way, enjoy it! Fall only lasts a few months, and there are only so many opportunities to have your favorite seasonal drink.
Just know, if you see me during these months, I’ll probably be drinking a pumpkin spice latte.
