Exciting news for Ali Hazelwood fans: The Love Hypothesis has officially arrived on Prime Video, and Hazelwood has announced a sequel to the bestselling romance. Even more exciting news, the sequel is being developed for the screen.
Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis was published by Penguin Random House in September 2021, making it Hazelwood’s first published novel. The fanfic-turned-romance novel captured readers because of the sweet and impulsive Olive Smith and her opposite, Adam Carlsen, the stoic, brooding, and brilliant biology professor. The book follows the beloved fake-dating trope that readers eat up.
It was initially announced back in October 2022 that Bisous Pictures bought the rights to produce The Love Hypothesis into a screen adaptation. A long three years later, in 2025, Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman were reported by Deadline to have been cast as the scientist couple. Filming then began in the summer of 2025, with a few sneak peeks shared on Reinhart’s TikTok account.
Prime Video officially announced in June 2026 the streaming date so fans could mark their calendars. Now, just a few weeks ago, the movie premiered on Prime Video. Quickly, the movie climbed the charts of the platform and landed as the number one most-watched movie. Critics have given it a quite positive rating, averaging around 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the feedback has been positive, with movie and book lovers praising the charming chemistry of the leads. Unfortunately, there has been some criticism with the pacing of the movie, and a few missing details that fans were hoping to see in the adaptation.
As of September 29, 2026, Hazelwood has released information about the sequel story, The Two-Body Problem, following Olive and Adam. In book two, readers can be excited for more of the couple as readers dive a few years into their relationship and see how they navigate the mundane as well as Olive facing some challenging decisions in her career. The book is expected to be released February 2, 2027. The exciting news doesn’t stop there as a second movie by Bisous Pictures is in development with Amazon MGM Studios.
No further release date or production details for a sequel movie have been announced, but fans are excited to see more Olive and Adam on their screens.
