Duck Donuts, a growing donut shop chain, opened its newest location in College Park on Sept. 19.

Duck Donuts is known for serving warm vanilla cake donuts that can be customized with coatings, toppings and drizzles.

Along with made-to-order donuts, the shop has a wide variety of pre-made options, including maple bacon, cookies and cream, s’mores, blueberry pancake and many more. They also sell coffee and espresso.

One unique feature of Duck Donuts is the donut sundaes, donut ice cream sandwiches, donut breakfast sandwiches and donut-topped milkshakes.

The grand opening was a success, according to Cameron Moore, the owner of College Park’s Duck Donuts..

“I was here at five in the morning, there was already people in line,” said Moore, “That’s special to people that were anticipating as much as I was,” he added.

There was even someone who camped outside of the shop from 1 a.m. until the opening at 7 a.m., said Moore. This student received free donuts for a year.

Other students are liking the donuts as well.

Veronica Brickhaus, a sophomore neuroscience major, stepped out of her comfort zone and ordered a maple bacon donut. Not only did she like the donut, but also she loved the shop’s atmosphere.

Another student and Duck Donuts fan agrees with her opinion.

“What brought me back is the uniqueness from other donut spots, like Dunkin’,” said Rawlins Don-Simmons, a sophomore neuroscience major, “The donuts are really warm, they have very versatile flavors.”

Some of the unique flavors include Coconut Island Bliss, a vanilla cake donut topped with chocolate icing, chopped peanuts and toasted coconut. Also, The Boardwalk, a vanilla cake donut glazed with Oreo cookie crumbles and powdered sugar topped with a vanilla drizzle.

Along with students loving the donuts, staff members are not excluded from the unique and fun atmosphere.

“We have a balance between fun and professional and I feel like we’re able to interact with customers and provide the same professionalism and fun atmosphere for them too,” said Alyssa Nagy, junior public health science major and team member at Duck Donuts.

Moore hinted at events and discounts coming soon for the shop. While he cannot give away too many details yet, he noted that there were big plans in motion for the future that students should look out for.

Duck Donuts is located underneath The Hub apartment building and is open during the daytime.
