There’s nothing worse than the feeling of screen surfing after watching an amazing movie that you patiently waited months to see — and for me, that was Netflix’s Best Of The Best. Even though it was definitely worth the wait, all of the excitement quickly disappeared (unless I commit to a rewatch, of course, which may be in my near future). After being rejected by her school’s elite dance team, Quinn makes her own team. (This totally reminded me of when Maya kept adding her own flair to the routines despite everyone’s lack of confidence in her.) Even though Work It takes place in high school, I still found tons of similarities to the school culture that was in Best Of The Best. Plus, the little romance between Quinn and Jake is almost an exact parallel to Maya and Arjun.

Another one of my favorite early 2000s classics that reminded me of Best Of The Best is Bring It On. The drama, rivalries, and cliques in this movie make it such an easy one to binge watch. And similar to the close tie between Maya and Anjali, Bring It On emphasizes the importance of friendship within the cheer squad. If you’re looking for a good laugh and some team drama, Bring It On is definitely for you.

Lastly, if you want a more South Asian-inspired movie to watch, ABCD is a hilarious option. This Hindi movie focuses on Vishnu, who gets kicked off of his dance team and joins a street dance group with the goal of making them India’s very best. The themes of resilience, determination, and friendship that are in Best Of The Best are spread throughout ABCD, too. Even if you don’t speak Hindi, watching this movie with subtitles will surely help fill the dance competition gap in your watchlist.
