As most of us know by now, Charli D’Amelio was a content creator that went absolutely viral on TikTok during COVID. Her sudden overnight fame caught her family by surprise, and it’s all starting to come out that clearly they didn’t handle that well. As someone who has followed Charli since COVID, who has watched her on DWTS, and has watched the D’Amelio show and their interviews, I knew something was off. It may be normal to have a bit of jealousy over the fact that your younger sister or youngest daughter suddenly became famous overnight, but these people have never truly been supportive of her career and have taken it so far. So, let’s break down what is truly going on in that family.

What started as making dancing videos on TikTok quickly became Charli being on of the most followed people on the platform. Her older sister, Dixie, quickly gained followers on her platform as well, and she started a music and entertainment career. Their parents–Marc and Heidi–became familiar faces, and the family eventually stared in their own reality series called The D’Amelio Show.

This year, a lot of rumors started to come out about the true reality of the family and how things were not so perfect behind the scenes. In May, the gossip account DeuxMoi came out with claims Charli had made regarding millions of dollars being taken out of accounts. The catch? This money was allegedly transferred out of accounts that were set up and managed by her parents during her years of fame. Despite this not officially being proven 100%, Charli has been seen making multiple innuendos regarding the rumors to be true without specifically mentioning the topic. On the other hand, Marc has denied these allegations and claimed that the family has always done things in regards to supporting Charli and her career. There were also claims made by Marc saying that certain people around Charli have influenced and manipulated her into thinking that her parents were taking money from her–he also claims to have proof of this.

Like I said, this claim hasn’t been found as 100% true, but fans have seen that Charli doesn’t follow her parents or Dixie, whereas Dixie still follows Marc and Heidi, but not Charli. Marc has also stated that Charli is not directing speaking to him, and it can be assumed she isn’t speaking to Heidi or Dixie at this time.

Charli has also separated from Be Happy Snacks, which is the popcorn company that was launched by the family in 2023, while the rest of the family is still connected to the business. Very convenient timing if I do say so myself…

So, let’s talk about how Charli finally seems to be addressing the situation. During an appearance in September on Quenlin Blackwell’s show, she was asked how much money she made from her Dunkin x Charli merchandise and collab, however she claimed to not know; “Ain’t that the question! Wouldn’t I like to know?” Could this mean she has no knowledge of her finances, or was this a dig at her parents for taking that money?? I personally think it’s the second; a few years ago she would never have made a comment like that.

This situation is particularly interesting for so many reasons, especially considering how popular this family has become. It raises the bigger question, about what truly happens when a family and a business quickly become the same thing. Her quick jump to fame when she was still in high school was an easy in for her parents to manage her career and become part of the spotlight. They were most likely involved in most, if not all, of the decisions regarding money, contracts, opportunities, brand deals, appearances, etc. Fast forward to today, Charli’s only contact with her parents is through her lawyer. Marc claims that Charli’s manager is another person who is manipulating her, all of the claims are false, and that they just want their daughter back. As of now we have no true answer as to what went down, but let’s just say, I hope Charli sits down and does a tell-all about what it was truly like during her the heigh of her fame. I will be sat.
