Life is not always joyful, and for many people, there are moments when it feels as if tomorrow will never get better. In our twenties, we often worry about problems that seem overwhelming but may be smaller than they appear. At other times, we face challenges that leave us feeling as though we are drowning.
It might be a bad grade, with a number on a screen keeping us awake at night and making us feel as though the world is ending. Perhaps it is the uncertainty of life after graduation or the fear of not knowing where we will be five years from now. Sometimes, we lose friendships we believed would last forever. Other times, we experience a breakup with someone we thought would be our lifelong partner.
In those moments, we forget that there is always another exam to prepare for more diligently. The test we performed poorly on will eventually become nothing more than a story to tell years from now. The person who did not return our greeting today will likely stop mattering by next semester, while new people will enter our lives. At the same time, the decisions that feel like matters of life and death today are often only the first steps in a much longer journey, one filled with unexpected turns and beautiful detours. We are allowed to take our time, make mistakes, and try different paths before finding something that truly fulfills us.
Other times, as we continue searching for that fulfillment, life leads us through moments of sadness that are simply part of being human. During those times, even more painful experiences can occur, such as the death of someone we love and feeling as though the pain will never go away. Grieving the death of a loved one breaks us in a way that no failed exam or romantic breakup ever could. It makes us question everything. Yet honoring their memory and continuing to love them also means allowing ourselves to live, heal, and move forward. They would want you to see the sunrise, and living fully is one of the greatest ways to honor them. Their love does not disappear; it remains a guiding force that helps us continue when tomorrow feels too heavy. There is still a tomorrow waiting for you, and it is okay to step into it.
I am not saying this to suggest that we should ignore life’s vulnerabilities or dismiss the pain we experience. We cannot simply choose to be happy because someone tells us to be. Life is not always joyful; sometimes, it hurts. What matters is that we do not allow ourselves to remain trapped in that pain. Moving forward may sometimes feel impossible, but todavía hay un mañana, and tomorrow does not mean it will always hurt.
