As the weather begins to cool down, I find that there is nothing better than staying inside and watching a movie with your roommates. You all lie on the couch together, wrapped in your favorite blankets and indulge in your favorite Trader Joe’s seasonal autumnal snacks.
To create the perfect night, you turn the TV on and find yourself the perfect fall movie. Whether you’re feeling a romance, a comedy or something a little more on the spooky side, I think these five movies belong on your watchlist.
- “Hocus Pocus”
-
“Hocus Pocus” is the Halloween classic. The story follows three witches who return to Salem after being gone for 300 years. This movie is full of comedy and magic, with a little bit of spookiness without being considered a scary movie.
In my opinion, this is the best fall movie and a perfect choice if you and your roommates want a fun movie. You can also make a ton of snacks inspired by the story!
- “When Harry Met Sally”
-
While it’s not necessarily considered a Halloween movie, due to its taking place in New York during the fall weather, I added it to my 5 fall movies to watch with your roommates. “When Harry Met Sally”: the story of friends-to-lovers. It’s full of laughs and romance, surrounded by beautiful fall scenery in the city.
Nothing sounds cozier than cuddling up and watching an autumnal love story.
- “Practical Magic”
-
“Practical Magic” captures the story of two sisters who come from a family of witches. This movie is full of romance, family magic and the lovable small-town fall atmosphere that makes everyone happy.
This movie is full of comforting moments, while also incorporating a few dark humor references. If you enjoy this one, the sequel, “Practical Magic 2,” just came out in theaters.
- “Dead Poets Society”
-
Everyone loves a movie where there are no dry eyes at the end, and “Dead Poets Society” can be that movie for you.
A boarding school English teacher is encouraging his students to be able to think for themselves in order to make their lives meaningful. Being set during the autumn season, it fits right into my list of five movies to watch with your roommates.
- “Fantastic Mr. Fox”
-
While it may be an animated movie, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is full of warm colors and a cozy, fall feeling. Going through the story of Mr. Fox, who has put his family and community in danger after he steals from three farmers.
“Fantastic Mr. Fox” differs from the typical seasonal choices, but it’s a perfect fall movie to have on in the background.
Putting on a fall movie is an easy way to spend time with your roommates. While you don’t need to follow along with my list, it’s a great place to start. I find that there is nothing more relaxing than all coming together at the end of the day and watching a comfort movie, especially when it encapsulates the cozy setting of fall.
It’s time to create a list of your fall favorites and start checking them off.
