Letterboxd is an app that has been growing in success over recent years. If you are unfamiliar with the app, it is a platform where you can log and review movies. It is more casual than sites such as IMDb, but it is still taken seriously by many. For many people, immediately as the credits are rolling, they take out their phones to rate the film on their Letterboxd account. Letterboxd also allows you to post your top four favorite movies to your account.
My top four is Little Women (2019), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and Beauty and the Beast (1991). These four movies have shaped who I am, and I think someone’s favorite movies say a lot about them. Thinking about that made me wonder what celebrities would have as their top four movies. I did some research on four of my favorite celebrities, and here’s what I think they would place as their top four on Letterboxd.
Angela Giarratana
Angela Giarratana is an actress, singer, and podcast host. Also, she’s part of my favorite YouTube channel, SMOSH. In multiple videos Giarratana has mentioned her love for Toe Mater from Cars (2006), so therefore, I believe Cars would be number one on her list.
She is a theater kid through and through, so next, I’d say she’d have the musical pro-shot of Next to Normal (2025) on her list. She has also mentioned online that she enjoys this show.
Going along with the musical theme, another movie in her top four may be a musical she was in. This is the pro-shot of Black Friday (2020), the musical where she plays the role of Lex Foster. I believe she dominated this role. I may be a little biased because that is one of my favorite shows.
Lastly, I think she’d have the movie Penelope (2006) in her top four. That movie is just niche enough that someone will never know what she is talking about, and I think that fits her perfectly.
Noah Kahan
Next up is one of my favorite artists, Noah Kahan. Kahan has revealed on X that his favorite movie is The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), so naturally that takes the number one spot on his top four. I’d also choose Manic (2001). As someone who has watched this one, I can confirm that it is just as heartbreakingly beautiful as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, so Kahan would love Manic.
Something about Kahan’s music always feels somewhat nostalgic, so my third pick is one that will always have that nostalgia factor. That is The Parent Trap (1998) starring Lindsey Lohan.
For my last top four prediction for Kahan, I cannot take credit. I was texting my best friend and she said this, and it was too good not to include it. Noah Kahan has a line in his song “The View Between Villages” where he sings “As the last of the bugs leave their homes again” and his fans are also referred to as bugs. Because of this, I think the final movie in his top four would be A Bug’s Life (1998).
Nika Muhl
If you know me at all, it is truly no secret that I love women’s basketball. With that being said, Nika Mühl is my all-time favorite basketball player. She does not talk about it often but she’s mentioned a few times that her two favorite movies are Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring (2001), so those two absolutely take the top two spots.
The next two are guesses on my end, but I think they fit well. This one is, for starters, is about basketball, and it is the favorite movie of Mühl’s best friend, Paige Bueckers, and that is Love and Basketball (2000).
Mühl lived in Croatia until college, so I feel like she would absolutely have a Croatian movie in her top four. I am not well versed in Croatian films, but after some research I have found that The Substitute (1961) is one that has done well, as it has a 7.2/10 on IMDb. Until we know her actual favorite from home, I will say that one could be in her top four.
Tom Holland
Rounding out the list is none other than Tom Holland. It only felt right to include Spider-Man as one of his favorite movies, because in the past before booking the role of Peter Parker he has stated how much he would love to play Spider-Man. Holland would absolutely have one of the Spider-Man films up there, but it would not be one of his or Andrew Garfields. It would be the first film starring Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man (2002). That is the film that brought Peter Parker to life, so it only feels right.
The next two movies are two that Holland has revealed are actually a few of his favorites. First, The Departed (2006), and the second one is the first Avatar (2009). Lastly, I chose the this one because it is no secret that Holland is his wife’s biggest fan. Zendaya has been in many movies, making this a tough choice, but I think that he would add The Drama (2026) to close his top four, as he said in a Deadline article that he loves that one.
Overall, consuming and understanding media is a huge part of who I am. Music, movies, and literature are such massive parts of my character in a way I don’t fully understand. I think the way that people connect with their chosen art defines them, and I think it says so much about how the artists and athletes above have connected with their field.
