Behind the brand

Tanner Fletcher is a brand made up of Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell, a queer couple who met in college and decided to create a Brooklyn-based, genderless label called Tanner Fletcher.

The brand was created in the early days of the pandemic, and when neither could find jobs, they decided to use their backgrounds in fashion merchandising and buying and interior design to create a brand.

Tanner Fletcher are unique in that they make for themselves. They don’t have a customer persona, and they make what they wish to see. They have a signature flair to their pieces, often embellished with bows and ribbons and lace. Their personal touch with their brand continues even in sizing and modeling.

Rather than going a route of “genderless” fashion that eventually becomes menswear or womenswear, Tanner Fletcher truly is genderless and models their clothes on both masculine and feminine models.

It’s important to mention the brand’s desire and motivation in making clothes. The brand prides itself on having everything you need in the brand itself. This is where the genderless theme comes in as well as the various casual and formal pieces seen throughout the various collections.

The brand gives you the perfect formal ballroom attire as well as the casual knitwear for when you’re missing the Midwest.

“We always say rather than designers, we like to build a world. So if you’re in the Tanner Fletcher world, you should be able to get anything you need,” Kasell said to Fashionista.com.

The First chapter of Cabin-wear

Raised in the Midwest, Richie and Kasell made their first installment of the Cabin-wear series for Fall 2026. This collection focused on adding their signature flair to knitwear and corduroy, bring in their take on the Midwest vibes.

“We’re from the Midwest, so we wanted to launch a new category called cabinwear,” Richie said to Vogue. “We’re trying to build [clothes for] a full lifestyle.”

In addition to their signature flare of extravagant embellishments, the brand leans into vintage vibes in each of their pieces. Many of the pieces in the Fall 2026 Cabin-wear collection came from places of nostalgia.

Coastal cabin-wear

For this collection, Tanner Fletcher have moved beyond the Midwest woods into the coastal backdrop of New England.

According to WWD.com, Richie let it slip that his and Kasell’s wedding ceremony will take place in New England.

“We’ve been traveling around there so much, so we knew we wanted to do a collection based on that,” he said

The collection does a beautiful job at making nods to New England and the coastal vibes while also balancing the other New England elements like the strawberries. In addition to this, the collection manages to keep a stylish and flamboyant energy throughout all the pieces.

polka dots, ships and strawberries

There are many motifs and noticeable details in Tanner Fletcher’s most recent collection. The theme of nautical costal vibes is clear through the blues, whites and reds, the flared collars, and of course, the ship motifs.

However, there’s another nod to New England through the collection’s use of strawberries. New England has a pick-your-own harvesting tradition and the strawberries featured throughout the various pieces made a beautiful nod to that tradition.

Polka dots also seem to be making a rather large appearance in this collection. Featured in the womens swimwear portion of the collection, the polka dots serve to give the look a chic effortless city-girl vibe when paired with the kitten heels and the arm-full of bouées that seem to mimic shopping bags.

Final notes

I find it important to note their use of non-conventional models. I appreciate the way they don’t stick to the classic style of models often found in the fashion sphere and instead branch out to models who reflect their collection.

Overall, I feel that this collection was a beautiful creation made with care and love by the designers. The brand itself has a beautiful story and this genuine-ness can be seen through the clothes themselves.

Their message of providing everything someone would need, to anyone who may need it, provides a deep and meaningful depth to their collections.
