Classical Music Can Be Fun

Boring. Pointless. Lame. These are words that constantly surround classical music. But lucky for you, I’m here to change the narrative. Now I may be biased from 8 years of playing the violin, but trust me when I say classical music can have you on your feet dancing, or leave you feeling like you’re the star of a television drama in seconds… or in some cases, seventeen minutes. 

If you’ve been meaning to get into classical music, or just want to impress someone by listening to a cool niche song, look no further. These classical bangers will have you levitating, frolicking, and dancing to their beautiful and exciting melodies in no time. 

Here’s my beginner’s guide to classical music bangers: 

1. Violin Concerto in D Minor by Jean Sibelius. 

This song will have you transcending like you never have before. Your eardrums may just discover what heaven sounds like in this seventeen-minute-long song. 

2. Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23 by Frédéric Chopin 

If you want to feel like you’re the main character in a romance book, listen to this song on full blast. I mean it– full blast. It gives Pride and Prejudice, and who doesn’t love a good Mr. Darcy yearning moment?

3. Die Nacht, D. Deest, Arrangement for Cello & Guitar 

This is my go-to study song. It’s a beautiful mix of two instruments that rarely get played together and will have you swaying back and forth to its beautiful melody. 

4. Thaïs Méditation by Jules Massenet 

This song is perfect for a peaceful walk, studying, or, like the title says, meditation. The music tells a beautiful story and leaves you feeling like you’re floating. 

5. Czardas by Vittorio Monti 

Although this song is written by an Italian composer, it explores traditional Hungarian tunes. It has a sort of Sherlock Holmes effect with a very mysterious opening before the violins take it away with a dance-worthy climax and ending that makes me want to frolic. Yes, you heard me correctly: frolic.

Classical music doesn’t have to be the boring listening experience people make it out to be. Don’t let the haters ruin your whimsy, girl– give classical music a try with these five songs. Because needing lyrics in your music does NOT make you deep… but finding meaning without them does.
