I’ve seen a brown leaf on the ground, so that means it’s time to start listening to my autumn playlist! Whether you already have your own of these playlists or not, here’s some of the 90s artists I listen to who are the perfect additions to fall soundtracks.
1. Mazzy Star
You’re probably familiar with their hit song “Fade Into You,” but they have many more that you likely haven’t heard of. “Halah” and “Roseblood” are two of my personal favorites. If you’re looking for a relaxing and calm fall soundtrack, Mazzy Star is a perfect artist to be featured on it.
2. Cocteau Twins
One of the most unique artists I’ve come across is Cocteau Twins. Their vocalist sings with more emotions and sounds than recognized language, which creates beautiful songs. I’m predicting they’ll be high up on my Spotify Wrapped this year, mostly because they’re one of the few artists I can listen to while studying and not get distracted! Some songs of theirs I have on my playlist include “Cico Buff,” “Cherry-coloured Funk,” and “Know Who You Are At Every Age.”
3. Slowdive
I don’t listen to much shoegaze, but Slowdive is my few exceptions. My favorites of their songs are “When the Sun Hits,” “Alison,” and “Souvlaki Space Station.” Standard of the shoegaze genre, there are lyrics, but they’re drowned out by instrumentals for the most part.
4. The Sundays
An artist I’ve started listening to more recently is The Sundays. If you’re looking for more upbeat music than the previous artists, The Sundays are a great place to start! In my opinion, they sound similar to The Cranberries, and my favorite songs of theirs are “Life Goes On,” “You’re Not The Only One I Know,” and “On Earth.”
5. Lush
Less well known than the previous bands, Lush is a band that started out along the lines of shoegaze but then turned toward pop later in their musical career. On my playlist, I have their songs “For Love,” “Monochrome,” and “I Have the Moon.”
Of course, these aren’t the only artists on my playlist. Some other recommendations I have include The Smiths, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Stone Roses, Jeff Buckley, and The Cure. Hopefully you’ve found a new artist or song to listen to as the weather gets colder!
