As a fourth-year journalism student with a minor in human rights, I have been passionate about communication and writing since I was young. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I have had the opportunity to develop my journalistic skills and perfect them through my work with Her Campus.
I have been a part of the Her Campus Carleton executive team for two years as the acting social media director. I absolutely love the job and the team as a whole.
Last year, I wanted to take my journalism skills outside of the classroom, however I was unsure how to move forward. At the time, I was not confident about publishing because I was overwhelmed by the pressure of the public consuming my work. Her Campus became the perfect platform for me to write about topics I love and publish them freely. In joining the Her Campus team I have become a more thoughtful, intentional and confident writer.
I was particularly drawn to the role of social media director as I felt I could provide a new style to HCC’s existing media platforms. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my team last year, managing different styles of content on one page. I learned so much about scheduling, communication and team management, leaving me highly prepared for this coming season.
One of my goals for this year is to engage new viewers on our platform to increase HCC’s exposure. This would hopefully translate into monetary income for HCC moving forward.
In order to draw in more viewers, I plan to start a conversation around period pain in a highly popular way. I want to participate in the current trend of testing period pain simulators on men.
I also believe HCC’s 26/27 social media team can engage different Carleton clubs and teams to collaborate for social media, creating a conversation on campus about period cramps. This trends immense popularity would hopefully draw in views, likes and follows, and increase campus knowledge on periods and Her Campus Carleton as a whole.
As a competitive dancer of 14 years, I am a dedicated individual who works hard to achieve my goals. I want to see the best for HCC during my final year on the team. I want to set up the team for success moving into the future. As a human rights student, I am very passionate about ensuring that HCC is a supportive environment for all people.
