Fallmaxxing: Make the Most of the Season

It’s almost that time of year again! Soon, the air will be filled with the scent of pumpkin spice lattes, the trees will be covered in bright reds, yellows, and oranges, and people will be rocking their coats and scarves. Are you ready for fall? Here’s a few tips for the start of the season to make it as autumn as possible!

Make Some Cozy Outfits

Do you have some new long sleeves that need accessories to match? Are you tired of wearing the same sweaters and pants together? Do you just like pairing clothes together? Well, it’s the perfect time to look through your wardrobe and put some outfits together! Take note of your long sleeve shirts, comfy sweaters, sweatpants, and long dresses. See which coats, scarves, boots, or jewelry go with them. If you want to go shopping, think about what could match what you have at home. Matching up clothes to make outfits could be a fun activity that gets you in the mood for autumn. Feel free to try on your clothes and look at them in the mirror to see if they match well while you’re wearing them. Don’t care what you wear as long as you’re comfortable? That’s fine too. Just make sure you’ve got some cozy clothes in your closet that are ready to wear when the time comes.

Plan Your halloween

If you’d like to wear a costume or do something with friends on October 31st, now would be a good time to start preparing. Look online, in stores, or in your closet for something that could be used for a costume. Get to work making little accessories or sewing a costume for yourself. Look for a place to hang out or prepare your living space for a party. Take out your spooky season decorations or buy some from the nearest store (they should be selling them already) and spruce up the place! And don’t forget the most important thing (besides having fun, of course): make sure to get yourself some nice Halloween candy.

Decor

Since decor was just mentioned, let’s expand on that. In October, hang up some cobwebs and black-and-orange garlands on the walls and doorways. Put little witch, spider, or skeleton figures on your desk. Carve yourself a pumpkin to sit outside, or buy little ones to accent your room. Maybe even some spooky green lights or a bowl of candies for extra Halloween flair. Then, in November, you can have some little turkeys and cornucopias sitting around the house and in the center of the table. This can be side by side with your Halloween decor or replace it (I don’t blame you if you want your spooky decorations to stay up a little longer). Not that the decor has to be holiday themed, of course; one could easily set up a room full of throw pillows and tablecloths with leaves on them. And not every decoration has to be bought in a store either! You could easily make a strand of paper leaves or a finger-paint turkey to stick to the wall.

Fall foods

As the weather gets cooler, there is more and more reason to eat warm foods and drink warm drinks. Feel free to have soup to your heart’s content. Fill up on nice, warm tea of all kinds, and bust out that hot chocolate you’ve been itching to drink (if you haven’t already; it can be hard to resist, especially if it’s cool indoors). Not to mention the fall flavors. Glorious, glorious pumpkin. You’ve got the pumpkin spice lattes for the white girls who spend too much money on Starbucks (aka me), pumpkin flavored… just about anything, really, that you can find in the store, and pumpkin pies for your family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Speaking of Thanksgiving, the holy grail of autumn cuisine, there’s so many iconic fall foods to choose from. Turkey (or ham), cranberry sauce, stuffing, I could go on. And of course, candy. All kinds of candy. Especially on Halloween. Watch out for those sales the day after! You can find a lot of chocolate for a great price. Fall is a great time for baking, too. You can make all kinds of fun pumpkin or leaf shaped cookies. Pies and some skull or spider shaped goods could be a hit at Halloween parties.

Well, I’m sure I missed some things, but I hope reading this article has gotten you excited for fall and given you some ideas on what to do this season. Make sure to enjoy autumn, whether you fallmaxx or not!
