If you were on your tv grind this summer, then Iām sure you heard all about the new hit YA show Sterling Point that landed on Prime Video at the beginning of August. I sat down and watched the entirety of season 1 in one sittingā¦ and it was 100% worth it! Not only did this show have a fantastic story line, it had me hooked right from the start. You just had to keep watching to figure out what the heck was going on! If youāre still contemplating whether or not you should watch this show, here is a breakdown that talks all about why it deserves a spot on your watchlist.Ā
- The Classic 2000s Teen Drama We’ve All Been Craving

Sterling Point follows 17-year-old Annie, and her twin brother Connor, as they discover they have an estranged grandfather who passed away and left Annie and Connor an entire island in Canada. Naturally, this is a pretty insane storyline that gets your attention pretty quickly. The twins grew up in NYC with their adoptive parents, but unfortunately their adoptive mother passed away when they were younger. Annieās sudden need to feel close to her mother and figure out what happened between her familyās past led her straight on a plane to the Muskoka region of Ontario. Without giving away too much of the surprise, letās just say Annie was in for a hugeeee surprise the moment she stepped foot in Sterling Point, and all the way through her stay. With each episode, she finds herself getting more immersed into what life is like in Sterling Point, while continuing to learn more about her mom and her family story.Ā Not only was she able to discover so much about her mom and family, but she discovered so much about herself as well. Her character growth as she navigated these insane life-altering findings is definitely one for the books.
- The Core Love Story Isn’t About Romance… Although That’s Pretty Epic Too

Yes there are romances, even love triangles, but at the end of the day, this show truly brought to life what it means to understand and experience very complex familial relationships. Pretty soon after arriving in Sterling Point, Annie meets Ramona, and throughout the series their bond experiences a lot of ups and downs; I mean it isnāt easy to get along with someone you just met, all while uncovering family baggage and secrets. Letās just say, there was a lot of tension and friction between the two at first. Although this series originally focused on Annie and Connorās story, we learn so much about all of the characters and their families. Not only are they all living on the same island, but theyāre all somehow connected; whether that be by their families, those tension-filled love triangles, or a simple friendship, all will be revealed once you watch! And trust meā¦ you should. There are romantic relationships, platonic friendships, and so much more baggage within every character you meet. There is so much inclusivity and diversity within the show, which is something I absolutely adore and I think it adds so much more depth to this entire story, but also to a lot of the characters.Ā
- Everything It Gets Right About Girlhood

While all the little romances and plot twists are absolutely fantastic within this show, I think one of the major impacts this show has created is from the girlhood. We see so many different relationship dynamics that carry so much baggage, and it truly brings to light just how lifesaving a true girlhood bond can be. Annie and Ramona have such an interesting dynamic, one that is constantly changing, but there were certain times where their moments absolutely brought me to tears. Sterling Point truly captured girlhood and every aspect that comes along with it; I mean letās be so for real, it was created by the queen Megan Park herself. We see a scene where a young girl experiences a āperiod ritualā with all of the older girls, and they make her this adorable flower crown and talk all about what her life is going to now include on the womanhood front. I mean how adorable is that! Each female friendship within this show has one of those bonds where even when things keep going horribly wrong, which unfortunately they do, they continue to be there for each other. You canāt always figure it out alone, and these girls know that. They are trying to live this life, figure out what they want out of it, and who they are, together.Ā
While I could go on and on and talk about this show, there isn’t a lot more I can say that won’t spoil it. I personally loved every aspect of this show; how real the dialogue was, anxiety/panic attack representation, crazy family lore and dynamics, and just the overall idea that you don’t have to have it all figured out. At the end of the day, most of these characters thought they had things figured out, and it turns out they don’t. It might be hectic and crazy and drive you insane, but it is okay. You will work through it and figure it all out, and you never have to do it alone. This show has brought forth so many important aspects, and I think it is deserving of all the hype and praise! As someone in college who is trying to figure out myself and what I want out of life, it was amazing to see that represented by so many people on screen. I know it is just a show, but this one did a great job just being real. So much of their acting wasn’t even apart of the script; this truly made it more real, and allowed for people to connect to different characters on a deeper level. I hope I’ve given you enough reason to add Sterling Point onto your watch list!!
