Around this time last year, up-and-coming indie author Riley Paige published her second book, Red Zone, and since then she has published three more books, finishing her debut series and starting her next one, along with her fourth coming out this month on September 10!Â
Paige has continued to absolutely capture the hearts of her readers in every way, from swoon-worthy slow-burn romance to the loss of a parent figure. It has been known since her first book that Riley’s characters will not be one-dimensional, and since that first book she has proved that time and time again. Her characters are real and raw and deal with some of the same real-life issues that many have to deal with on a daily basis. These cover everything from celiac disease, eating disorders, to taking care of a sick parent. By continuing to mix her new adult romances with real life, she makes the relationships on the paper feel so much more real.Â
As mentioned previously, Paige is releasing her fifth book and the second in her new PCU Ice Storm series on September 10. The book is called Lose You Twice, and I have had the amazing opportunity to read it before the release day as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy), and when I say it has gotten out of hand as to who will take Kai as their book boyfriend, it’s not an understatement. Kai and Wren, the main characters of Lose You Twice, are some of my favorites she has ever written. For those who don’t know, I am a sucker for a second chance romance absolutely filled with yearning, and that’s exactly what we got. He literally knows the exact number of days since they last saw each other, along with the number of freckles increasing on her face? Setting a new standard for yearning men and being the hockey captain must be a full-time job for Kai.Â
The plot you ask? Don’t worry, I won’t make you wait any longer than I already have. Three Years ago, Wren Calloway and Kai Mercer slipped through each other’s fingers. Now, 1,276 days later (not that Kai is counting or anything), they are thrown back into each other’s lives unexpectedly. Wren, now back from her summer internship, is taking care of her siblings, while her mom works as a nurse and her dad isn’t in the picture. She was forced to take a work-study job because her financial aid was messed up due to said absent father. As if Wren being his sister’s best friend didn’t make running into her hard enough, or seeing her at his sister’s dorm and now hockey parties, she is the new equipment manager for his hockey team.
Kai had lost hope of ever running into the girl who still owns his heart during his last year of college and as captain of the team. Yet as they get closer, Kai can no longer ignore the truth: letting Wren Calloway go was the worst mistake of his life, and watching her carry everything on her shoulders is killing him. Both of them have decided that starting whatever they still have again is a bad idea, but they can be adults, right? But what happens when things kick up a notch, when a kiss turns into old habits, and they both realize they still feel like home? Would they be able to deal with the possibility of losing each other twice?Â
This is by far my favorite book of Paige’s and I cannot state that enough. It is also Paige’s favorite she has ever written and is so excited for it to get into everyone’s hands. And after reading it’s impossible not to see why. Their chemistry is unmatched and going to make you wish you had your own second chance romance to live through, if it’s as good as theirs. Unfortunately I cannot read this book for the first time again, but the good news is you can.
