Welcome to all incoming and returning students!
As the semester begins, many students try to figure out their class schedules and how it can work with their work and personal lives. Part of that is trying to work on traveling to campus and also trying to figure out about joining clubs, Greek life, etc.
Back-to-School Parking Struggle
Last fall semester, the university experienced an 8% increase within enrollment. We are able to see that students are now having trouble with finding parking. Many students, who commute, tend to wake up earlier than usual to make it on campus earlier than usual just to have enough time to find parking.
On top of that, paying for parking has also gone up as well. Some other students decide to park on the streets around campus, since it can be cheaper and easier to find, compared to looking around the parking garages.
It can be very overwhelming for students because not only are they focusing on classes but also having to focus on getting to campus earlier than usual just to be able to secure a parking spot and avoid traffic.
On San Jose State’s Associated Students website, they offer some transportation solutions to help ease the stress. If you prefer to drive to campus, SJSU also offers a parking status website. There is also a parking shuttle that is offered to students if you park over at South Campus Garage.
Finding Your Place on Campus
SJSU is also on Weeks of Welcome, checking out their website. You can see the different clubs, greek life, and organizations that you can check out. Many organizations tend to work alongside your schedules.
You can also check on Instagram, there it will show you different events that will be occurring during the semester, as well what is happening during Weeks of Welcome.
Joining either a club, organization or Greek life. You are able to find lifelong friends, even if one thing doesn’t work out for you, those students are still willing to build and form a bond with you.
It can be hard especially for new students to find new friends, parking spots, and overall just hoping that the first few weeks of college will be fun. Don’t let that stop you. These are just little bumps in the road but that always occur during the first few weeks of class.
