Fall in Columbus is one of my favorite times of the year. There is something so magical about walking around, pumpkin spice latte in hand, admiring the beautiful fall foliage on campus. Football season has just begun, and classes haven’t quite picked up yet.
Having lived in Columbus through two full autumns, I believe I am qualified to tell you these seven must-do fall activities. Through my rigorous investigative journalism process and after taste-testing many a cute cafe, I have curated the perfect fall guide through Columbus.
Fox in the snow
Cozy cafes with delicious coffee and warm pastries are a fall staple, and Fox in the Snow is the Columbus cafe that hits the spot every time. Known for its baked goods and sandwiches, Fox in the Snow is the perfect mix of cute and elevated. With three locations in the Columbus area, it is a popular spot among locals and on social media.
The Book Loft
The Book Loft is a Columbus Icon. Located in German Village, it brings all of the fall vibes. The Book Loft is one of the nation’s largest independent bookstores. A visit to The Book Loft not only checks a box on your fall guide to Columbus, but it also supports a small business. Take a stroll around the adorable German Village this autumn and stop in for your next read!
Pumpkin Patch
Visiting a pumpkin patch is a fall must. Grab a cup of hot apple cider, go on a hayride, and try to find the ugliest pumpkin. Although it is a bit of a drive from campus, Van Buren Acres has become my favorite pumpkin patch around Columbus. It has farm animals, a maze, games (including mini golf!), and so many pumpkins. OktoberFest
Oktoberfest is one of the most fun fall experiences! Oktoberfest is an annual autumn festival originating in Germany. Held at the Ohio State Fair Grounds, Columbus Oktoberfest has food, entertainment, games, and more. It is a great autumn weekend activity to do with your friends.
Ohio State Football Game
Attending a Buckeyes game is obviously one of the best fall activities around! Cheering for the best team in college football with your friends in the crisp autumn air is a key part of being an Ohio State student. Don’t miss out on the games! As tempting as selling your ticket and hiding from the cold is, game days are precious and fleeting.
Cozy Cookie Movie Night
Cozy cookie movie night is my very favorite Fall tradition. Light a candle, put some cookies in the oven, and curl up on the couch with some friends for a fall flick. My fall movie/show suggestions include Hocus Pocus, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, When Harry Met Sally and Harry Potter.
Apple Picking
Finally, apple picking is one of the most iconic fall activities. The Orchard & Co. is a great apple orchard that is super close to campus. Pick some apples, have a fall photo shoot with your friends, and maybe even bake an apple pie when you get home
