Welcome back, guys! Classes have officially started for me and so far, life has been easy. Hopefully things don’t get too hectic this semester, but it’s nothing I can’t handle! I wanted to write to you guys about a show I recently watched on Netflix. Now I know I am late to the party, but better late than never. With that being said, here is my review of the hit show Adolescence.
When I decided to watch this show a couple of weeks ago, I was very eager to see what the hype was about. Upon tuning in, I was very surprised that it was only four episodes. I was kind of anticipating an eight-episode limited series. I also was expecting some kind of deep thriller series. Nevertheless, I was still excited to watch. I will say the first episode or two felt kind of slow in and less climatic to me than I thought. I feel that the part that really gripped my attention was when the boy, Jamie, finally snapped while talking to a psychologist. In this moment, it became clear that the innocent boy I thought he was might not be so innocent after all. I felt that was good story telling because I did not expect his demeanor to change so quickly, and it showed he quite possibly could be capable of the crime he was being accused of. Further into the show, I began to see the parallels between his and his father’s behavior. They both definitely have a lot of rage inside of them. I liked how the show played into that because I felt it showed just how influential the parental role and the environment you grow up in are to who you become and how you conduct yourself.
Overall, I would give the show a rating of 7.5/10 because of how long I felt the story took to intrigue me. I also was not too thrilled by the ending, but there is only so much you can do in four episodes, I guess. I don’t think this is the kind of show that should be stretched into a second season, but if there was one, showing some type of trial would be interesting. That’s why I feel the season should’ve been extended to showcase that and let the story evolve more but also have more suspense and thrill than I felt it did. The show was good enough for me to watch and not give up on though, and the acting was pretty good to me, especially the main character. If you guys are curious and haven’t watched it, I would recommend it if you were looking for a binge-watch worthy show for a rainy day. Until next time guys!
