What I’m Looking Forward to This Summer After a Year of COVID-19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The pandemic has taken over our lives for over a year now, but with vaccines being distributed, I’m hoping for a brighter summer this year. It won’t be a normal summer like before, but I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be better than the summer of 2020. So, here are some things I’m looking forward to for the next three months.

1. The Beach

It’s been wayyyyy too long since I’ve been to the beach. I can’t wait to feel the sand under my feet, hear the waves crashing, and feel the sun beaming on my skin.

2. Work

I know this one sounds kind of lame, but I genuinely miss working! I loved my job and I know I’m also going to want something to keep me busy this summer, so I’m really excited to go back to work.

3. Seeing relatives

I haven’t seen my grandparents or cousins in a while, and I miss them. A lot has changed for my family, and I can’t wait to see them again in person and not over FaceTime.

4. Hanging out with my friends!

I spent my freshman year of college remotely while a lot of my friends were on campus. I can’t wait to see their beautiful faces off our screens and give them all air hugs. :)

5. Outdoor activities

I wasn’t a big outdoorsy person before COVID-19, but after being stuck inside for so long, especially with our New England winters, I want to soak up the sun any chance I can get. I’ve gotten into hiking and taking nature walks with friends and family, and I’m looking forward to more outdoor adventures with my favorite people.

It’s been a long year (to say the least), but I’m looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer. Obviously, some things will be different, please continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines, wear face masks, and socially distance yourselves from others. But enjoy your summer, you deserve it!
